Extended Summary
As Hannah and Denny listen, Phoebe is ripping into herself for being an idiot, for changing relationships so quickly that she doesn’t know who the father of her baby is. She apologises to Denny for going on about it but Denny assures her that she’s over Ash. Hannah asks when Phoebe is going to tell Ash and Kyle but Phoebe says she might not, given that she’s probably not intending to keep the baby. Later on as they watch tv, Phoebe admits to never having wanted to be a mother. Hannah tells her what her options are, including saying that she could do a paternity test at nine weeks. Denny gently says she thinks Phoebe should tell Ash and Hannah backs her up saying it’s not an easy decision to make, especially alone.
Ricky teases Ash about being loved up and he heads off having fixed the dryer. Ricky gets a call from Kyle but before they’ve had a chance to catch up Kyle has to go. Unbeknownst to Ricky he’s been called back into a dodgy poker game…
Roo’s going on a date with James and after a bit of teasing from Irene and Marilyn she admits she doesn’t really want them to spend time with him as it gets weird when they’re around. John urges them to leave her alone and Roo goes to meet James. They joke about Roo’s curfew, and head off, excited to be together.
Ash flicks through the selfies of him and Phoebe and sends her kisses by text. Phoebe see it and breaks down in Hannah arms. The next morning Hannah tells Denny that she was up late with Phoebe and they discuss what they would do in Phoebe’s position.
Roo creeps in to the house in the morning but is caught by Alf who says she doesn’t have to sneak around or hide James, she’s a grown woman. Down at the diner Alf tells Irene and Marilyn that they’ve made Roo paranoid. They protest but John points out multiple examples of things they’ve done to make Roo feel uncomfortable.
Ricky and Denny chat, Denny asks if Ricky’s heard from Kyle and she tells her that he called and sounded really busy. Meanwhile Kyle is getting beaten at poker. He tries to leave but is tempted to stay and play longer with a loan…
Ash accuses Denny of avoiding him, Denny awkwardly covers when Ash asks if Phoebe’s okay. She rushes home and tells Phoebe and Hannah that Ash was asking after Phoebe and that she didn’t cover very well. Almost immediately there’s a knock at the door and Hannah tries to tell Ash that Phoebe isn’t home but he’s not convinced and walks in to see Phoebe. The two of them talk alone, and Ash offers to back off, thinking he’s been coming on too strong. Phoebe comes close to telling him the truth, then pretends that she’s been taking care of Hannah and that they’re fine.
Irene and Marilyn apologise to Roo, and Alf says he was part of it too. Irene suggests they all have dinner at her place and Roo reluctantly says she’ll ask James. Later as they walk down the beach Roo asks if James will go for dinner. She’s surprised when he says yes and thrilled when he explains that he thinks there could be something serious between them, so he wants to get to know her friends and family.
Kyle loses badly at poker and ends up owing $5000. When he admits that he can’t pay up the situation turns threatening.
Ash and Phoebe walk down the beach and Phoebe stops, saying she has something she needs to tell him. She becomes tearful telling Ash how much she loves him. He tells her to spit it out and she blurts out that she’s pregnant, and that she doesn’t know whether it’s his or Kyle’s. Ash says nothing, just stares at her, then walks away. Phoebe’s left alone, calling after him…
