Episode 3846

Australian Air Date: 25th October 2004

Will Kirsty fall for Kane’s lies? Sally discovers Josie’s dark treachery. Viv has a devastating secret for Alf.

Extended Summary

Kane is desperately trying to keep his dire condition from Kirsty, but the vomiting is taking a nasty toll. She thinks his paleness is related to his groin injury. Kane can’t keep the deception going any longer so he asks Flynn and Sally if he can stay at their place for a week. He writes a note to Kirsty with another bogus story about being asked to helm a weeklong charter for a high-paying client.

Dani nearly gives Kane’s secret away when she mentions to Kirsty that she saw him at the hospital. Kirsty thinks it was just Flynn being extra careful. Later on that day, Dani nearly catches Kane again, but this time he’s dressed up in a full-on disguise and is able to escape.

Viv finds out that Alf has been in, and will visit again. She asks Dani to freshen her up. Dani says Alf’s already seen her, what’s the use? Viv says it matters. We see she’s a vulnerable and nervous woman. As Dani is washing Viv, she notices a locket around her neck. Viv says it’s the most precious thing she has. It’s the reason she became so hard in prison – to defend it. Only one person should be told what’s inside it. When Dani goes, Viv opens the locket and reveals a tiny lock of hair.

Sally broaches the subject of honesty with Kane. She feels like doing an Irene on him and getting he and Kirsty to sit down and have open communication. The same way Dan and Leah did. Kane says it doesn’t apply to them – every day of keeping the lie alive is a day less stress for Kirsty.

Flynn thinks Viv is only staying alive to read Dani’s manuscript. But Dani thinks it’s another reason – Alf. Their reunion is nervous and awkward, but after a while the nostalgia kicks in. Viv starts to tire just as Alf feels ready to get around to the pressing question – why did she run away? Viv says she will tell him, but not today. When he goes, we see her hand slip around the locket. Clearly it contains a mystery connected with Alf.

To Kane’s relief, Kirsty buys his explanation about the charter. She nearly busts him by asking how his tests went. He doesn’t know what she’s talking about. She says Dani saw him at the hospital. He quickly recovers – he didn’t want to worry her.

Sally informs Colleen that Kane will be staying for a week and asks her to be discreet about it; she knows she let slip about Kane’s cancer to Josie. Colleen is puzzled. She didn’t say a thing! Sally questions Kane later, but he’s adamant Josie couldn’t possibly know. Sally’s mind is racing. Why did Josie lie to Flynn? She asks Flynn how Josie reacted when he first confronted her about Kane. He suddenly realises that Josie didn’t have a clue what he was talking about. Yet she thought on her feet and lied as if she did! Who is she covering for…and why? And what are they going to do about it? The answer to all those questions is that they don’t have a clue.
