Extended Summary

Ebony is sat on a bench, reading the newspaper article to Hazel over the phone, and notes they quoted her almost exactly. She says she’s doesn’t want to miss a second of the fall-out. At the Diner, Leah and Jasmine quietly wonder how the paper found out. John questions Colby who admits it was true once but says he left the River Boys a long time ago. Alf asks if his boss knows; Colby gets a phone call and notes he obviously does now, leaving. Ebony comes in and feigns shock at the news article. Leah protests it doesn’t make Colby a criminal but Ebony continues to act worried, causing Jasmine to shoot daggers at her.

Willow and Dean are down near the beach when Dean sees Hunter reading the paper and takes it from him (temporarily) to read the story about Colby. As he’s doing so, Willow sees Justin watching them but ignores him. Dean tells her they should go and check on Colby. Back at the Diner, Ebony continues to question John, who says Dean is also a River Boy, while Leah continues to downplay the seriousness. Jasmine starts to leave but Ebony follows and “checks on her”, quickly realising she already knew.

Olivia is looking up clubs, including a book club and wine tasting, on her laptop. Jasmine comes in, complaining about Ebony, and has to fill Olivia in on Colby. She wonders what Olivia’s doing and Olivia says she’s trying to join a uni social club in order to meet someone single and aesthetically pleasing. At the police station, McCarthy drops the article in front of Colby. Colby admits he hung out with the River Boys when younger but says there’s been nothing since he came back apart from a few scraps and his friendship with Dean. McCarthy says the latter has to go and hopes Colby doesn’t have any Blood and Sand tattoos where no-one can see. He realises from Colby’s expression than he does.

At the Diner, Leah and Hunter discuss the article and the fact that Colby will probably have to steer clear of the River Boys now, which Ebony listens in on. They head into the kitchen to discuss Leah’s website. Hunter congratulates Leah on her latest vlog and says he should hand over the management to her now. He also notes that someone named Bored Panda 893 is asking what she’s going to do next. Meanwhile, McCarthy tells Colby that he’s spoken to the Integrity Commission but until they’ve made a decision, Colby can’t work a shift. McCarthy is supportive but says they need photographs of Colby’s tattoos. Colby stands shirtless as someone photographs him from several angles.

Dean and Willow turn up outside the Diner flat, noting Colby has been avoiding their calls. Dean complains about the press portraying the River Boys as a gang, saying they’re a family who protected the community. They run into Colby but he gives them the brush off. Inside the Diner, Hunter is giving Leah advice on her vlog, telling her to just give an opinion on something. Leah gives him a voucher for a meal for two at Salt as a thank you. Mason arrives and notes it sounds like a date. Leah says that they don’t have meal for one vouchers. Mason checks Olivia isn’t an option and observes that he and Hunter are both free and single.

Willow and Dean follow Colby into Salt but Colby explains he needs to stay away from them, especially Dean. Dean leaves, affronted, while Willow is more understanding. Ebony approaches Colby and acts sympathetic, wondering if Dean or one of the other River Boys could have told the press. Colby says it’s not their style. Ebony reveals that she knows Jasmine knew, claiming she heard her talking to Leah about it in the Diner. Colby messages Jasmine to meet him, prompting Olivia to wryly comment on them just being friends. Olivia admits she’s down to fencing and street art for clubs. Jasmine suggests she tries online dating instead.

Jasmine arrives at Salt where Colby asks if she knows how the press found out. Jasmine says she didn’t tell anyone but Colby retorts that she told Leah. Jasmine admits that they discussed it in the Diner kitchen and Colby guesses that someone overheard. He says he shouldn’t have trusted her, which prompts Jasmine to leave. Ebony smirks from behind the bar. Meanwhile, Dean and Willow are discussing how they tried to hide Colby’s part when Alf approaches and reminds them rent’s due. Willow privately tells Dean she only has enough to cover herself. Seeing Justin, she approaches him against Dean’s wishes and tries to get him to give Dean his job back but Justin just walks away.

Leah pops into the bait shop to ask Alf and John if they’re ready to order. They discuss topics for her vlog. Alf suggests a fishing report, John suggests investigating Colby or a piece on his bus tours. Leah says it’s meant to be about self-determination. John suggests he and Alf start their own vlog. Alf retorts that John hasn’t had a good idea since he left the navy. Leah leaves but finds Jasmine outside, upset about her run-in with Colby.

Inside the Diner, Mason is trying to convince Hunter that they need to find themselves girlfriends. The entrance of Alf and John, arguing about John’s vlog idea, is enough to convince Hunter. Down on the beach, Jasmine is beating herself up for letting Colby’s secret slip. Leah tells her it’s not her fault, since Colby was the one who chose to lie. She also thinks it’s not a bad thing: Jasmine came to town on the back of a bad break-up and needs to learn to be single.

Colby meets with Dean and Willow in his flat, apologising for being abrupt before but says it’s something he has to do. He asks if they know anything about how the press got the story, adding that Willow threatened to tell the police once before. However, he instantly believes them when they say it’s nothing to do with them, noting they’re the only two people he trusts at the moment. Dean admits that Colby’s a good cop so thinks it will blow over.

Down on the beach, Mason is trying to convince Hunter they should make dating profiles and takes some shirtless photos of himself. Hunter isn’t keen, suggesting Mason finds someone and asks if she has a friend. John approaches and they fill him in. He says he’s heard how dating apps work from the television and newspapers (the type with pages that you turn) and misses the old method of candlelit dinners for two and moonlit strolls. Again, this convinces Hunter.

Colby escorts Willow and Dean out of the flat. Ebony skulks nearby and takes a photo of Colby and Dean shaking hands. Willow and Dean head on up the beach. Dean takes the opportunity to kiss her but Willow quickly pulls away, saying it’s because she has to get to work. Dean says he’ll meet her after class but Willow looks as unhappy as ever as she walks away.

McCarthy shows Colby the photo of him and Dean, saying someone e-mailed it to the station anonymously. He berates Colby for ignoring his instructions. Colby says he was just explaining to Dean but McCarthy says he has no choice: Despite Colby protesting that he needs the job, he suspends him without pay until the investigation is over.
