Extended Summary

Tori reveals to Mason that Brody has been taking ice, and has just been arrested. Mason, disbelieving, asks about the drug test they performed, but Tori explains she initially only tested for cocaine and when she tested it again it came up positive for methamphetamines. They both rush home where Justin reveals he’s kicked him out. He explains that he won’t tolerate drugs in the house, especially with Raffy and Ava there. Furious, Tori rushes out to find Brody, but Justin remains firm. Tori finds Brody at the Surf Club and pleads for him to come home, but he yells at her to leave him alone. Tori is left shocked and shaken by Brody’s uncharacteristic behaviour and returns home furious with Justin. Knowing what ice does to a person and their family she questions how he could abandon their brother when he needs them the most. The two siblings embrace, united in their grief.

Meanwhile, Irene is dealing with an overzealous John, who is attempting to fix everything in the house. Hunter is with Olivia in the Diner when Zac walks in to pick up take away. Hunter asks if he wants to join him, but Zac has marking to do. Disappointed by the brush off, Hunter wonders how long it will take for everything to go back to normal after the DNA test reveal. Olivia assures him it will; especially now he knows Zac is his dad. But Hunter’s resolve is tested the next morning when John checks the mail and sees the letter to Hunter from the pathology lab. Despite his confidence in Zac’s paternity he’s still curious to open it. Despite his temptation, Hunter throws the results in the bin, unseen, not needing a piece of paper to confirm what he already knows. Zac and Hunter bump into one another at the Diner. Zac is disconcerted by the strange way John seems to be observing the two. When questioned, John reveals he’s comparing the family resemblance. Zac is wounded that Hunter has told him, but Hunter quickly explains that John saw the letter from the lab. Trying to sound nonchalant Zac asks the results, but is pleased when Hunter tells him he didn’t look at them; Zac is his dad. John suggests that they’re both putting a lot of faith in Charlotte, who was never the most honest person. Zac doesn’t believe she’d lie about something like this, and is convinced Hunter is his son, but the seeds of doubt have been sewn in Hunter who doesn’t seem so sure anymore. Later, Hunter goes back to the bin to retrieve the letter and opens it to find out the results.

After having spent a rough night on the beach, Brody is spotted by Scarlett. Brody is initially frosty, believing Scarlett turned him into the cops, but she sets him straight and offers to buy him some breakfast. Concerned by his sleeping arrangement she questions why he can’t go home to his family. Brody is adamant it’s not possible and moves to head off but Scarlett stops him, and suggests instead he go back to hers. At Scarlett’s house she asks if she can contact his family in order to let them know he’s okay, but by the time she turns back to him he’s fast asleep on the couch. Spotting his wallet Scarlett finds his address and goes to the Morgan’s where Tori and Mason are frantically trying to locate Brody. The Morgans ask who she is and how she knows Brody. Justin accuses her of being one of his ‘druggy friends’ and Scarlett bristles at the suggestion, quickly identifying Justin as the brother who threw him out. She tells them she knows where Brody is and takes them back to her house. They gather around Brody who is still asleep on the couch, and try to work out what to do with him. Justin is confused by Scarlett’s motives, but she reveals she’s had some experience with addicts before and knows they’re not bad people. Tori and Mason want to take him home, but Justin is insistent he won’t set foot in their house until he’s clean. Brody awakens just in time to hear Justin call him a liar and an addict, feeling even more isolated from his family. They begin to argue, Brody furious after Justin tells him he won’t be able to work at Salt until he’s clean but Scarlett quietens everyone, asking Justin and Tori to go outside with her. As Tori and Justin discuss what to do, Scarlett tries to helpfully interject, but her presence isn’t appreciated by Justin. Tori and Justin reach an impasse, but Mason suggests Brody stay here with Scarlett. Initially against the idea, Scarlett relents; Brody can stay if he wants to. Brody accepts the proposal and the Morgans leave the two of them alone, with Tori promising to visit every day. After setting some ground rules Scarlett shows him his room. She then moves to her own where she takes out a security box from under the bed filled with bundles of cash and a gold locket bracelet. She moves it out of view to the top of her wardrobe, very aware she is now sharing her space with an addict.
