Extended Summary

Ash and Kat walk away from the Diner, Kat carrying Luc. She wonders where Patrick could have gone but Ash is too flustered to think. Kat suggests Ash try Patrick’s old place and the beach where they used to hang out, while she goes to the station to track him. Her appearance there carrying Luc prompts Murray to ask if there’s something she hasn’t told them. Kat hands Luc to him, while the rest of the officers crowd round for a look, then calls someone to ask them to track Patrick’s phone.

Brody collects the mail and angrily notes that his cards still haven’t come. Mason suggests he call the bank. Brody snaps that he has; they just said the cards had been sent and aggressively asks Raffy if she’s seen them. Justin calms things; Mason and Raffy go out and Brody goes to his room, leaving Justin and Phoebe alone. There’s a knock at the door: It’s Brian. He says he spoke to Nina, who doesn’t blame Justin. He notes Ava pestered him to get to meet her “real dad” and that keeping Justin away hasn’t worked. Phoebe promises that the danger the Morgans were in before is in the past and Justin agrees.

Murray is looking after Luc in the office, doing quite well despite unsolicited advice from other officers. Kat calls Ash and tells him that Patrick has been at Madeline’s Point for over an hour. Ash runs through the bush and finds Patrick sitting on the cliff edge. Patrick comments on not getting any peace and tells Ash to go, saying he’s got a family. Ash says they’re Patrick’s family too and refuses to go.

Justin pokes a teddy bear rounds Ava’s hospital room doorway to greet her, having also bought her a balloon. Phoebe and Brian watch the reunion from a distance. Justin writes his mobile number on Ava’s cast and they decide to name the teddy Fred, overriding Justin’s suggestion of Zachary. Later, Justin and Phoebe are with Ava in the corridor, with Justin offering to get something from the snack machine. Ava suggests he come to her school concert, so he can see her school and meet her teacher. Justin admits he won’t be around for that, explaining he and Phoebe have to go to America for a year so Phoebe can be a famous rock star. Phoebe says they’ll send her lots of presents and selfies. Ava accepts the news but both she and Justin are clearly disappointed. Brian arrives to take Ava home and he and Justin shake hands. Ava wipes a tear away as she waves goodbye.

Patrick says it was a mistake coming back but Ash thinks the mistake was disappearing in the first place and says the girl’s death was an accident. Patrick says it should have been him. He shoves Ash away and starts walking towards the edge. Ash tackles him to the ground and hits him twice, saying they’ve just lost Billie; Patrick’s all he has left and Luc needs him. Later, with them both calmer, Ash says that things happen in war zones. He notes he’s done things he regrets but he doesn’t let them define him. Patrick says he only ever wanted to be a soldier. Ash says, despite that, he stepped up when their dad left and their mum died, raising Billie and keeping Ash out of trouble. He tells Patrick to come with him.

Mason and Raffy are having gelato at the surf club. Mason notes Raffy’s usually finished hers and eyeing up his by now. Raffy claims she’s not hungry but Mason wonders if it’s to do with what Brody said, asking if it’s true. Raffy admits she took the cards and tells him the real reason Buddy fell sick, that he ate drugs Brody brought home. Mason tells her about the blood test Tori did on Brody and assures her he’s telling the truth now. Raffy goes and eyes up Mason’s gelato. However, back at the house, Brody is on the phone to Zannis, trying to get drugs off him with promises of his cards coming through. He searches the kitty without success and takes some loose change from a drawer. Then he notices Raffy’s necklace, which she took off earlier. He takes it and heads out.

Kat is with Luc on the headland when Ash and Patrick arrive. Ash takes Luc off her and convinces Patrick to hold her. After an awkward start, Patrick emotionally notes she looks just like Billie. Ash says Patrick needs help and Luc needs him in her life. Later, Patrick is looking after Luc in the flat. Kat gives him his toothbrush, which he left behind while packing. She notes he seems better already and the rehab clinic he’s going to is highly recommended. They get a text from Ash wondering where they are and Kat takes Luc to dress her for the farewell. Patrick notes she must really love Ash, since motherhood doesn’t seem like her. Kat is clearly uncomfortable at the comment, so Patrick tells her she’ll be awesome.

Brody goes to a pawn shop and offers the owner, Tony, the necklace. Tony offers him $10 for it. Brody insists it’s worth $100, becoming more and more aggressive. Tony tells him to take the necklace and go before he calls the police, calling him a junkie. Brody grabs a hockey stick and Tony presses a panic button as Brody knocks a monitor over with it. Meanwhile, Patrick says goodbye to Kat, thanking her for bringing him and Ash back together, and tells Luc to look after Ash. Ash leaves Luc with Kat before driving Patrick away.

At the Morgan house, Phoebe is leaving for her last shift at Salt. Mason tells her where her keys and phone are and she notes she should take him on tour as her PA. She tries to reassure Justin that Ava will be fine before hurrying out. Raffy gives Mason the envelopes with the cards and asks him not to tell Brody. Mason assures her Brody would never hurt anyone. Cut to Brody smashing up the shop. He challenges Tony to come outside and Tony agrees…then, as soon as Brody’s outside, shuts and locks the door, laughing that the cops will love this. Brody hears police sirens and runs. Seeing a car stopped at an intersection, he jumps into the passenger seat and tells the woman in the car, Scarlett, to drive.
