Extended Summary
Scarlett pulls over a short distance away and asks Brody not to hurt her, which confuses him somewhat. She hands him her bag and tells him to take it and go. Brody runs off. Later, he arrives back at the house and hides the bag under a cushion when Mason comes in. Mason notices he looks dishevelled and Brody claims he’s coming down with something. Mason hands him the cards, saying Raffy found them in recycling. Brody says he’s going in the shower.
Olivia brings Hunter some mail at the Diner: It’s the DNA test kit, which he ordered before he changed his mind. Although he is somewhat equivocal, Hunter agrees to throw it away. He says he’s borrowed Irene’s car to pick up Zac from hospital but decides against tidying his caravan because he doesn’t want him to know they were there. At the hospital, Nate tries to hurry Zac along as Zac suggests Nate didn’t come to see him because he’s avoiding Tori. Hunter turns up and Nate is happy to leave them to it but Zac points out Nate brought his car. Hunter suggests meeting them at the caravan but Zac says he’ll catch up with him tomorrow. He walks off with Nate, joking about getting Tori to discharge him, and Hunter looks left out.
Brody comes back through to find Mason looking through the bag. Brody says it was left at Salt days ago. Mason finds Scarlett’s driving license and notes the Adelaide address; Brody points out papers that say she’s just moved into a place on Edward Road. He accuses Mason of taking his cards. Mason admits Raffy did and says she told him what really happened to Buddy and he told her about the test results. Brody takes the bag to the address on the rental agreement. He calls out and knocks before going in, saying he’s just going to leave the bag. Scarlett promptly knocks him over the head from behind. When he comes to, she has tied him up. He tells her there’s nothing missing from the bag but she suggests he could have spent money on her credit cards and says she’s going to phone the police. Brody pleads with her not to.
John has changed into his lifeguard outfit and asks Marilyn if she thinks he lost weight in prison. Marilyn says he can go without her but John points out they were going to walk in together and he’s got time to wait. He is looking forward to getting back to normal and checks that things are normal. Marilyn agrees but looks uncomfortable when he offers her his arm. Later, at the Diner, Olivia clocks Roo looking nauseous at the smell of coffee. Marilyn covers, saying it’s a hangover. Zac comes in and, after assuring Roo and Marilyn he’s fine, goes to join a suited man, Terry. Olivia decides to take her break.
John sees Hunter looking pensive at the surf club and suggests it’s girl trouble, money trouble or an existential crisis. Hunter says his plans fell through. John offers him a broom and a shift on minimum wage helping get the place in order. As Hunter is starting, Olivia turns up and tells him about Zac and Terry. Hunter dismisses it as being to do with going back to work, but after Olivia’s gone he looks less certain. Back at the Diner, Zac and Terry part company. Roo notices Marilyn taking her wedding ring off and she admits she still doesn’t feel right wearing it. She says she spoke to John but can’t just give up on her marriage. She asks Roo about the pregnancy. Roo is starting to realise how difficult it will be and admits she misses James a bit.
Brody tells Scarlett he’s not a junkie but she isn’t convinced. She says she rang the police after the car jacking and they told her to come in and make a statement. Brody asks how she came to Summer Bay and she quips it was the friendly locals. He has told her he owns a restaurant and is close to his family. Scarlett presses him for something genuine and he says he’s done a lot of things recently that horrify him: He didn’t mean to scare her and it’s a wake-up call. Scarlett says she has experience of addicts and he’s heading down a dark path. She adds that she comes from a large family too and he should trust them. She takes his phone and says she won’t call the police if he calls his family.
Meanwhile, John and Hunter are clearing the loading bay at the surf club when Terry comes past. John recognises him as being from the Education Department and they reminisce about Gina. Terry says he was meeting Zac and John says Hunter is his son. Terry asks him to get Zac to reconsider relocating; Hunter looks confused and Terry realises he’s put his foot in it and leaves. John reminds Hunter they don’t have the full story.
Brody convinces Scarlett to untie him, saying Mason’s on his way. He notes she doesn’t have much stuff and asks if she’s staying long. Scarlett answers the door to someone that Brody calls Mason: In fact, it’s Zannis. Brody tells him he’s been doing drugs and Zannis plays along, acting shocked. Scarlett says Brody needs help and Zannis says he’ll get him home. Brody notes he’s likely to see Scarlett around and she says she intends to keep to herself.
Zannis drives Brody back to the surf club and jokes about taking him to rehab. Brody says he can pay him now he’s got his cards but Zannis says he can pay him back another way. He gives Brody some drugs and tells him he’ll be in touch about the favour. Seeing Mason coming, Brody tells him to go. He tells Mason Zannis was the husband of the woman who owned the bag. They go to play pool.
At the Diner, Roo gets a call from James but turns her phone off without answering it. Hunter comes in and greets Zac, who says he’s going back to his van. Hunter asks about the meeting and Zac says it was school stuff and nothing important. That evening, Hunter tells Olivia Zac is planning to leave town without him and calls him a compulsive liar who doesn’t care about him. At the surf club, Zac is explaining to Nate that he needs a fresh start now things are over with Leah. He’s considering getting a job near Hunter’s grandmother. Nate asks if Hunter would want to go back and Zac concedes he has school and Olivia, adding he doesn’t want to tell Hunter when nothing’s definite. Olivia is trying to calm Hunter down but Hunter announces he’s going to do the DNA test.
