Extended Summary

Patrick and Ash fob off Kat’s concerns about Patrick’s sleepwalking and other issues. Ash is really trying hard to ignore the problems, desperate to reconnect with his brother. Kat’s left feeling frustrated again. Kat unloads her concerns to Phoebe. She’s going to get her military contact to dig up what happened with Patrick. Later, Patrick can’t believe it when he catches Kat looking at his Army file on her laptop. She asks him what Operation Bottleneck is, but Patrick tells her to butt out, she’s got no idea. Patrick decides to move to the caravan park. He tells Kat he cannot go back to what she read in his file and to please drop it, leaving her wondering what to do next.

Ash is miffed when Irene tells him Luc’s just gone down for a sleep and to reorganise his planned outing with her for another day. Irene doesn’t see that Ash is getting worked up about the situation. Ash blows off steam to Justin, who unwittingly gives him the determination to go back to Irene to get his time with Luc after all. When Ash can’t find Irene at home or at the Diner, Roo makes some vague comments about Irene’s difficult past with her kids, which sets Ash off to find out more. Ash learns that Luc was at Olivia and Hunter’s with Irene, making him even angrier after Irene denied him the opportunity to spend time with her. Olivia assures Ash Irene is great with Luc but Ash digs for more on the parenting difficulties Roo had hinted at earlier. Olivia accidentally drops Irene in it, assuming Ash knows, telling him that Irene’s kids were taken away from her and it probably wasn’t just because of her drinking. Past boiling point, Ash bashes on Irene’s door and demands to take Luc. He pushes into the house and uses Irene’s past against her, accusing Irene, Leah and VJ of not being up to looking after Luc. Luc should be with him! Irene’s furious and they get into a real barney, Irene threatening to call the police. Ash tells her he will fight her on this, all the way to court.

Hunter and Olivia happily carry out their home improvements. Irene reluctantly agrees to free up some more of Olivia’s allowance to pay for basics for the house. Olivia, seeking Irene’s approval, invites Irene and Luc around to see the house. Hunter and Olivia try to impress Irene with some lunch, they’re proud of what they’ve accomplished so far and are desperately seeking some affirmation from an adult. Irene’s not sure about the house but puts on a supportive face. Luc wakes and Irene heads off, reminding them her door’s always open. Later, Olivia and Hunter are shaken when they arrive home from grocery shopping to find the house has been broken into and trashed, their laptops stolen.
