Extended Summary

Tori helps Justin out of the warehouse, just in time to see Turner and a henchman driving off in Justin’s car. Justin collapses and Tori takes his phone and calls an ambulance. Back at the festival, a DJ is playing tracks. Brody tells Phoebe he has to go back to town for supplies and invites her to come with him but she declines. On the dance floor, Evelyn tells Matt it’s the most fun she’s had in ages and they kiss. John rejoins Zac and Phoebe and is confused by there being a DJ rather than a live performer. Zac recognises the DJ as Fleximama, saying Hunter was looking forward to hearing her, and wonders where Hunter is.

At the police station, Kat is taking a telephone call from someone who’s seen the bushfire; the police already know about it and she asks where the caller saw it. McCarthy calls her into the office and she tells him the fire just crossed Yabbie Creek Road and could be heading to Summer Bay. Kat suddenly realises that the festival is right in its path. She calls Phoebe and lets her know. Evelyn hurries onto stage and shuts down the DJ, telling everyone about the bushfire and that they need to calmly evacuate. John, Matt and Zac direct them towards the exits.

VJ is unable to get a phone signal while Billie is still experiencing contractions. They can also smell smoke. Billie tells VJ to go and find a house and call for help. VJ is reluctant to leave her but Billie insists if the baby comes she’ll handle it. She tells him to hurry. Meanwhile, Hunter arrives back at the festival site as the last of the attendees are leaving, with only John, Matt, Zac, Evelyn and Phoebe left. He wonders what’s happened to Olivia and is told she’s with Mason, while John wonders where Marilyn is. They conclude they might have already left but decide to do a final sweep.

At the warehouse, Tori is tending to Justin, putting pressure on the wound. Justin thinks he isn’t going to make it and asks her to tell Ava he never stopped loving her and has a message for Phoebe. Tori shuts him down but regrets it when he stops talking. Meanwhile, John, Zac, Phoebe, Evelyn, Matt and Hunter are making their way through the bush on their own, supposedly taking a short cut, but have ended up near the fire, wreathed in smoke. John says he thinks there’s a shack nearby and, despite objections from Hunter, they head towards it.

A group of police and SES, including Alf and Kat, have set up a road block. Brody turns up and tries to get to the festival but is told about the bushfire. He worries that Mason, Phoebe and Evie are all there but is told the festival’s being evacuated. They refuse to let him go through to look for them. Meanwhile, VJ is walking through the bush, still unable to get a signal. Back at the car, Billie gets back inside the vehicle for shelter and tearfully tells her baby that she’s sorry and the child deserves better.

John’s group arrive at the shack but Hunter is unconvinced by it as a safe place and runs off to look for Olivia. Zac decides to go after him; Evelyn wants to go too but Matt manages to get her to join John and Phoebe in the shack. Still searching, VJ sees the fire not too far away. He runs back to Billie at the car and tells her he couldn’t find anyone and about the bushfire. He says they need to get out of there.

Tori and ambulance staff bring Justin into the hospital. Tori gives a shocked Nate a precise of his injuries. Nate concludes he needs surgery. He convinces Tori to go with a nurse to get her head injury seen to. Meanwhile, Evelyn is sitting in shocked silence in the shack as Matt and John attempt to block up every entry point. Phoebe finds some water bottles and John gets them to soak blankets and cloths to breathe through. Nearby, Zac catches up with Hunter who is still keen to look for Olivia. Zac points out she could be anywhere and says they need to get back.

Billie continues to be in labour and VJ ends up picking her up and carrying her out of there. At the road block, Alf tells Kat and Brody that a helicopter has spotted the festival goers heading their way. VJ appears carrying Billie and says he carried her a couple of Ks. Kat helps them into the police car and Brody calls VJ a hero.

Nate tells Tori that Justin is stable and the on call surgeon, a new guy, is on his way. VJ, Billie and Kat arrive and Nate shows VJ and Billie into the delivery room with VJ explaining she breathed in a lot of smoke and worrying about the baby. Billie asks him to call Ash. At the road block, Alf tells Brody that the wind has changed so the fire will miss the Bay, as they see the last of the festival goers arrive. Brody says they haven’t seen Mason and Alf notes they haven’t seen Evie, Zac or the Palmers either.

Kat asks Nate about Billie and also gives him an update on the bushfire. She wonders why he hasn’t heard more and he explains about Justin being stabbed. Kat goes to see Tori and is bewildered by the news that Turner is loose. Tori explains about being lured to the warehouse and says the ambulance staff probably have the address. She says Raffy’s on her way but she hasn’t been able to get hold of Brody and Mason, leaving Brody a message. Nate rejoins Billie and VJ; VJ has been unable to get through to Ash. Nate says they need to prep for an emergency caesarean. Billie is against the idea and Nate agrees to give her as much time as possible.

Evelyn sees Zac and Hunter coming; Matt lets them into the shack and John quickly hands them wet cloths and blankets. At the police station, Kat asks McCarthy what’s going on. He explains that Turner’s connections let her arrange to be placed under house arrest and her guards were on her pay roll: They were arrested near the warehouse but the police’s best bet of finding Turner is to find Justin’s car.

Billie is reluctant to do the birth without Ash and VJ says he left a message. Billie doesn’t know why VJ’s still there after the way she’s treated him but VJ assures her he’s not going anywhere. VJ finds Nate to ask him about Billie. Nate says they will need to do the caesarean if Billie and the baby are at risk, since her airway could close up. He agrees to wait as long as possible.He goes in to where Tori is watching over Justin and she tells him about her car being stopped, Justin being lured to the warehouse and Turner stabbing him. She notes Turner hasn’t finished with them. Nate tries to comfort her but she apologetically pulls away, saying she can’t.

John gives last directions to everyone in the shack: Smoke and flames can be seen under the doors. Evelyn tells Matt she loves him and he returns it before they cover themselves with a blanket. The fire rages all around the shack.
