HAYLEY'S TAG TEAM

Home and Away, Monday-Friday, 7pm, Prime

BEC Cartwright will soon be relegated to the role of Lleyton Hewitt's wife when her final appearances as Hayley Lawson are aired. In true soapie style, a completely different actor will take her place the following Monday.

NIDA graduate Ella Scott Lynch will become Hayley and has been thrown into the deep end.

Events now surrounding Hayley include a relationship with Kim Hyde (Chris Hemsworth) and a pregnancy complicated by a battle with the heart condition cardiomyopathy.

This follows turbulence that included the death of Hayley's ex-husband Noah (Beau Brady) and a breakup with Scott Hunter (Kip Gamblin).

Ella's previous roles include a guest spot on All Saints, small roles in Charlotte's Web and Shine, and upcoming appearances in telemovies The Silence and Monkey Puzzle.

Although she is a redhead and not a household name, she is probably overqualified for the job.

I don't get it. Noah was her husband up to the day he died so how can he be classed as an ex-husband?

Yeah I know. I totally missed the main point of the article but I couldn't not make a comment about that

Friday August 19

7pm, Seven

Just in case you've been out of the country, the low-rent Australian version of Posh and Becks are hitched. As the literary Bec Cartwright hinted in her wedding poem to hubby Lleyton -- "Rebecca Hewitt! I'm your wife!" -- she's an old-fashioned girl. After quitting the long-running series to devote herself to her new hubby and baby on the way, tonight Summer Bay bids a sad farewell to her character, Hayley Smith-Lawson.

Perhaps writers should have sent Hayley for an extreme makeover, because she's about to look very different. Yes, tonight is Bec Cartwright's last appearance - next time we meet Hayley, she'll be played by Ella Scott Lynch. But swapping actors is not new on this soap, so the change should not dent its credibility.
