jessica_r Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 BBQ for bride By Penelope Cross July 24, 2005 Sunday Telegraph TWO days after marrying tennis ace Lleyton Hewitt, mum-to-be Bec Cartwright celebrated her 22nd birthday with a backyard barbecue yesterday afternoon. The suburban setting at her parents' place - complete with makeshift sunshade, garden furniture and paper plates - was a far cry from the couple's extravagant nuptials at the Opera House on Thursday. The pair left their palatial $4.5 million home in Palm Beach about 10.30am yesterday to set off for the one and a half hour drive to the barbecue in Sydney's north west. There, the newlyweds relaxed with family and friends, eating, drinking and playing ball games. The party snacks were laid out on bright plastic tablecloths and guests milled around the pool, sunshade and what appeared to be septic tanks. Cartwright, who is due to give birth in October, swapped her $6500 Alex Perry gown for white cargo pants and a striped singlet, while Hewitt kicked back in a sports shirt, jeans and trademark backwards cap. "They were happily chatting, throwing balls and playing with the dogs," one observer remarked. Cartwright's low-key birthday celebrations yesterday followed a quiet night at Lucky's Gourmet Pizza in Avalon on Friday. The pair had an early dinner there with their combined families where Hewitt was animated as he regaled the party of nine with tales from the wedding night. "There was a lot of laughing - it was very relaxed," a witness to the two-hour repast reports. Meanwhile, tales of the desperate measures taken by rival press to break the exclusive deal made by a women's magazine continued to surface. One publication was rumoured to have employed dozens of paparazzi photographers and a helicopter to get lots of pictures, notching up a large bill in the process. The couple is thought to have sold their spread in the end to New Idea for around half the price of the Simone Warne story. Cartwright and Hewitt are believed to be leaving for a Fiji honeymoon today, where they are thought to be staying at Turtle Island, the same place Britney Spears and Kevin Federline celebrated their wedding last October. Dan F Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 I do worry about how much detail the article goes into - right down to the tableclothes! Maybe a journalist was one of the party guests!
chatter box Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 The media obsession is almost obscene...they really do need to get a grip and let the poor couple have a life.
