H&A, does it deserve the title of longest running Australian soap?

Neighbours ceased production in June 2022 but is still on air due to the advanced filming schedule, so you can say now H&A stands as the longest running Australia drama serial still in production.

I think the UK was perhaps the only country where Neighbours was more popular than H&A. And a lot of that was timing I think as H&A was not shown at the same time across ITV regions, the same as Crossroads wasn't. Perhaps the BBC did see H&A as a threat, well H&A did give Neighbours a decent run for its money if you go by 1992/1993 ITV figures.

ITV must have see Crossroads and (later) H&A as threats to Corrie, so tried to keep both shows down. H&A did feel like an Australian Crossroads. Pippa then Sally being the Meg Mortimer/Richardson of the show.
