Kate Ritchie to torture brides for Ten

She got married in Summer Bay for Seven, then flirted with both sides of the law for Nine in Underbelly and Cops: LAC, now Network Ten have turned to Kate Ritchie to give them a big day, by making - or possibly ruining - someone else's wedding.

The Gold Logie winner will present Ten's new series Don’t Tell The Bride, a show whose press release promises "tantrums and tears of joy before the 'big day' is done."

The reality entertainment show, expected to go to air in August, aims to capitalise on the success of Seven Network shows such as Four Weddings and Beauty and the Geek, by "helping out" six skint couples.

Each couple will be given a $25,000 wedding, on the condition that the groom plans it all, in only three weeks. The bride and groom are then separated for the entire period as the lucky man plans everything from venues, theme and timetable down to the various suppliers.

The bride will not see the invitation until it arrives in the mail. She will try on her dress just before she walks down the aisle. She will see the reception for the first time with the other guests.

With the grooms sure to be enthusiastically encouraged by the production team to make bold choices, some have gone with themes, including a gangster wedding, Hawaiian wedding and a music festival.

Ritchie appears to be looking forward to turning the tables on the traditional bridezilla stereotype, saying in a statement: "I’m thrilled to be part of a show that’s a cheeky take on one of life’s most memorable milestones. It’s going to be a great deal of fun, maybe not for the brides, but certainly for the rest of us!"
