buffygirl Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 Hi everyone, i thought i would start a thread in regards to the topic of sign. I was thinking i wonder if anyone on this forum has done this either through a career or for more personal reasons. I am currently learning BSL, on a 30 week course. I'm hard of hearing and i thought i would do it..in one part to learn as a part of a idea of a career change that i want to work with learning disabilities. Its quite complex to learn, and to literally see life through someone where their world is silant.
champagne_char Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 I learnt BSL. Its one of the most rewarding things ive done. I learnt it school which is lucky because i would of prob never of chosen to learn it by myslef. Its quite easy and it sticks with you...go for it! Any thing you want to know ask me
Zetti Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 I am deaf and sign BSL nearly all the time so any questions you need answering I am here

I wouldnt know, I would imagine there are some big differences but not many I dont think
suzannelgnz Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 I did Linguistics at uni and we had about 5 lectures on Sign language and one thing that was signed by a deaf girl in my class is that you can usually understand aspects of the different sign languages but to really communicate with someone who sign a different sign language you need to form a set of universal signs so that you get the jist of what they want to communicate
