Ada's big fat Greek wedding

HOME And Away star Ada Nicodemou married her long-term love Chrys Xipolitas in a traditional Greek ceremony before 400 family and friends yesterday afternoon.

Wearing a white dress believed to have cost more than $50,000, Nicodemou arrived at the St Andrew's Greek church in Redfern with her restaurateur fiance.

However, the happy couple had sold their wedding pictures to New Idea, which meant the pair were shielded by security men wielding giant green umbrellas.

Getaway gal Natalie Gruzlewski was also married yesterday to surfer Luke Egan in Tweed Heads.

By comparison, Gruzlewski, in a stunning strapless gown, happily posed for pictures after saying there was no way the couple would sell their wedding photos.

Nicodemou wore her hair half up, half down and was described by guests as a "magnificent'' bride.

It had been rumoured that Nicodemou's Home And Away cast mates Kate Ritchie and Bec Hewitt were to be bridesmaids; however, the bridal party consisted of close family and friends.

"I'm very excited - she's so happy,'' Ritchie said.

Other cast members who attended the ceremony included Chris Hemsworth, Ray Meagher, Holly Brisley and Tim Campbell.

Leading the contingent of sports stars at the church were cricketer Shane Warne, who arrived with ex-wife Simone, Sydney Swans footballers Michael O'Loughlin, Nick Davis and Adam Goodes, and league players Mark Gasnier, Jason Ryles and Lance Thompson.

"It's exciting. I've known Chris ever since he's known Ada, so it's great to be able to celebrate this great day with them,'' Goodes said.

Guests were treated to a lavish reception at the Shangri-La Hotel.

Wedding bells for Warnes ... just not theirs

HOME and Away star Ada Nicodemou was married in a big fat Greek wedding yesterday. The young actor and her restaurateur beau, Chris Xipolitas, exchanged vows at the Annunciation of Our Lady Greek Orthodox Church in Redfern.

In a star-studded guest list of 300, Shane Warne and his former wife Simone Callahan turned heads, arriving together, she in a sexy black dress, he in dark sunglasses, suit and tie. Home And Away stars Kate Ritchie, Holly Brisley, Lynne McGranger and Chris Hemsworth and Sydney Swans players Michael O'Loughlin, Adam Goodes and Nick Davis mingled alongside them.

Guests started arriving at the historic stone church at 3pm, and Nicodemou arrived in a convoy of black BMWs at 3.45pm.

Keen to protect an exclusive deal with a national women's magazine - believed to worth up to $20,000 - the bride hid behind the tinted windows of her wedding car. Her entrance to the church was shielded by security guards holding six large umbrellas. Another six guards patrolled the grounds throughout the ceremony, keeping watch on a posse of paparazzi perched on fences and roof tops.

Some guests became frustrated at the tight security, with one remarking: "We couldn't even get close enough to throw rice at them."

But Ritchie - who, with Nicodemou, was a bridesmaid at Bec Cartwright's wedding to Lleyton Hewitt - said she was very excited to see her friend exchange vows in the traditional ceremony.

McGranger said it was a perfect day for a wedding. "It's wonderful for them," she said. "And it's a beautiful day to get married as well."

Following the ceremony, the guests moved on to the Shangri-La Hotel at Circular Quay for the reception.
