Episode 7224

Extended Summary

Leah, Justin and Ava are camping out in the bush. Justin is putting up a small one-man tent for himself but the others don’t think it’s as well-assembled as their larger one. Justin thinks they’ve got no worries out here, since there’s no people and no phones. Ava asks what if there was an emergency like a snake bite and Justin admits there is a phone in the car but it’s only for emergencies. Ava goes to get the groceries from the car and Leah confirms to Justin that coming out there was a good idea. Later, Justin teaches Ava to toast marshmallows despite Leah warning them not to spoil their appetite: They put the marshmallows on sticks and heat them over the fire, with Ava swallowing hers whole. After checking that she’s enjoying herself, Justin takes a photo of her with the phone, calling it an emergency, and suggests sending it to Brian and Nina. Ava loses interest and walks off.

Ryder runs into Blake near the surf club and asks about exams. Blake wishes they were over. Ryder confirms Roo gives him a hard time and Blake says his dad’s the same. He is impressed when Ryder tells him he’s surfing now and, despite the party, Alf bought him a car. Blake suggests Ryder shouts him a pizza at Salt. Later, as they finish off their meal, Blake notes pizza tastes better when it’s free. Ryder says it’s not free, he just gets a staff discount. Blake suggests he get them beers but Ryder points out Blake’s under eighteen and he’d like to keep his job. Blake says he’s come up with a way to pass: Find someone who’s good at the subject and copy them.

Robbo is sitting in his car on a deserted road. He calls Des, who is outside what seems to be the entrance to an underground bunker and is surprised to hear from Robbo again, asking if Jasmine enjoyed their hospitality. Robbo says he has what Des wants and knows he’ll never be left alone unless he delivers but will only deal with Victor. Dylan is sat next to him, handcuffed to the car roof: He asks if it’s necessary and Robbo tells him to be quiet. Back at Salt, Blake explains his philosophy to Ryder: There are subjects you aren’t good at so there’s no point wasting time studying them, and this plan allows them to concentrate on their best subjects. He’s picked Ryder out as a Modern History expert from the trial results. John comes in and briefly chats to them. Blake says to let him know if Ryder wants to be part of the group before leaving. John wonders what it was about and Ryder says it’s just a study group.

Ava is feeling more relaxed after a meal, with Leah offering more marshmallows. After a night of charades and guitar playing, Justin suggests they turn in. The girls offer to let him share their tent but he insists he’s fine. He goes into his own tent…but it’s only a few seconds later before he comes out and joins them. Next morning, Robbo and Dylan are still parked in the same spot. Dylan asks for a drink and Robbo gives him a fresh water bottle. Dylan realises Robbo hasn’t slept and offers to keep an eye out for him. Robbo shuts him down, saying they’re not friends and never will be.

John runs into Ryder outside the surf club. Ryder is nervous about going surfing with the others, since he’s only ever surfed with Dean before. John reminisces about his first bromance. He moves on as Blake, Josh and Tyler approach. Blake notes the others have Media Studies that morning and Josh is the expert on that. Ryder suggests they’ve got him wrong as a Modern History expert. Later, Blake finds Ryder at the Diner. Ryder says he’s not comfortable with cheating and Blake says none of them are. He gets a call from his dad and claims he’s at the library. Blake reveals that his dad wants him to become a lawyer like him and even got him to read his study notes out so he’d know he was studying.

Justin is already up as Leah emerges from the tent. Justin is glad Ava seems more relaxed and says he’s learnt his lesson from yesterday and isn’t going to push things: He won’t bring anything up unless she does. He and Leah kiss and Ava calls out from the tent that she can hear them. Justin retorts that they could hear her snoring and suggests they all go for a walk. Later, the three of them play boules and Ava wins. She says Brian taught her, and corrects herself when she calls him Dad. She says Brian and Nina are sad and angry now; she doesn’t want to choose sides but she feels like she has to. Justin offers to talk to them.

John comes into the Diner and asks Marilyn for a “double”: She offers him a herbal tea instead. Ryder asks John if he’s ever had to handle a tricky situation and John says he does it all the time, with Marilyn being a vegetarian and him being a carnivore. Ryder rejoins Blake who says Josh and Tyler got caught swapping their papers and are in trouble with Maggie: The plan’s off. A short time after, Blake is in a despondent mood since he hasn’t studied at all. Ryder offers to help him cram.

Ava finishes a phone call with Nina, who has agreed to let Brian know where she is and spend time with her. Leah has finished packing up the car and suggests they do it again some time. Ava gets in the car and Justin and Leah share a few moments before joining her. Meanwhile, Robbo drums his fingers on the wheel. Dylan says he normally gets fed on a stakeout and asks for chicken nuggets as his last meal. Robbo gets a text saying twelve noon and giving co-ordinates. He finds the location, on Gibbs Road, and says they need to leave now to get there in time.

Ryder rejoins Blake with milkshakes and text books but Blake says he has a brainwave: They make sure the exam supervisor doesn’t see them swap papers by making sure they fall asleep…by putting a sleeping pill in their water. Ryder is shocked at the idea of drugging someone. Meanwhile, Robbo pulls into an abandoned industrial site. He gets out, places a gun round the back of his waist, then uncuffs Dylan from the car, lets him out and cuffs his wrists together. Dylan asks what they do now and Robbo says they wait.
