Extended Summary
Tori is walking by the beach when Mick approaches her and asks if she can recommend a parenting group to help when he’s got Luc. As Ash approaches, Tori awkwardly suggests he talk to the hospital. Mick says he might have known she’d be on their side. Ash calls for him to leave her alone and Mick shouts back as he retreats that when he gets Luc he won’t have to speak to any of them again. Tori tells Ash he needs to come to the hospital with her, even though they’re meant to be leaving. Tori leaves Ash outside the room while she goes in to see Kat. Kat protests that she wanted to tell Robbo first but Tori says there’s no time and she needs to tell Ash now. She lets Ash in and he asks Kat about her being attacked. Kat haltingly tells him that she’s pregnant and it’s his.
Justin finds Willow showering by the beach and wonders what she’s doing there. Willow quips that she has a date with Buddy. Justin claims he’s still getting over the trauma but Willow thinks he had the time of his life. Justin notices Willow has a large bag of belongings with her and suspects she still owes Boyd money. Willow insists she’s fine. Meanwhile, Irene, Leah and VJ are looking after Luc while they wait for Ash; Alf is meant to be taking him and Tori to the airport. Leah goes to make calls. VJ is happy to be spending a bit more time with Luc and Irene fusses over her as well before VJ goes to put her down.
Ash questions Kat how explains that she thought the baby was Robbo’s and didn’t realise how far along she was. Robbo arrives with some flowers. He is slightly thrown to see Ash there and Ash leaves, telling Kat they’ll talk later. As Robbo looks after Kat, Ash talks with Tori in the corridor: He’s not sure if he can leave now. Tori points out that Luc can’t stay. Mick exits the lift behind them and eavesdrops, hearing Tori say they have a two hour window. He slips away as Ash says he needs more time and Tori says they’re running out.
Justin finds a now dressed Willow loading belongings and a tent into her car outside the surf club. He asks why she doesn’t go home and she replies that there’s an angry biker gang waiting for her outside her house. Justin worries that she isn’t safe and offers to buy her breakfast. Although Willow grumbles, she accepts. At the hospital, Kat asks Robbo how it went with McCarthy and he says he couldn’t tell him much. He adds that Murray is kicking himself for being a poor guard and Novak has disappeared, but assures her that there are cops everywhere and he won’t let anything happen to her. Kat asks if he’ll still love her after what she says next. She says that she’s further along than they thought and Ash is the father.
Leah gets off the phone from Justin and tells Alf, Irene and VJ that he hasn’t seen Ash and thought he and Tori were on their way there. Just as everyone is starting to worry, Ash and Tori turn up. However, as the others start to hustle him into leaving, Ash says he has to put the trip off for two days. No-one is happy about the news since it’s going to give Mick more time. Luc starts crying and Ash goes upstairs, cradling her. Irene heads to the Diner and a frantic Mick rushes in, demanding to know what’s going on. He tells her what he overheard and says that Ash and Tori are planning something and Irene is in on it. Irene retorts that it’s no secret that they’re trying to stop him getting custody of Luc. Mick insists that he’s her father and has a right to know.
Kat tells Robbo that she knows it’s a lot to take in and adds that she wanted the baby to be his. Robbo tells her to get some rest and he’ll go and get a coffee. He goes into the lift and pushes the button to close the doors without selecting a floor. He punches a sign on the wall and rips it down before sinking to the ground, close to tears. Kat is looking at the ultrasound photo when Robbo comes back and sees it. He says it looks like her and assures her he still wants her and the baby. He tells her to move up and cuddles up to her, although his expression looks somewhat haunted.
Willow is guzzling down a bowl in Salt and Justin sarcastically asks if she wants thirds. Willow says she hasn’t eaten much recently since she’s been saving money because of what she owes. Justin is slightly confused that she still owes money that the police have got and Willow says it was her job to look after it. Justin suggests she gets a proper job and Willow sarcastically says that with minimum wage she’d be in an old people’s home before she can pay Boyd back. She thinks it’s either cute or creepy that he worries about her. Justin thinks she’s not as tough as she acts but Willow retorts that he knows nothing about her and walks out. She passes Ben who guesses that’s the girl who attacked Justin and kidnapped his dog and advises him to run a mile. When Justin gets home, he finds Boyd there, peeling an apple with a knife. Boyd asks about his girlfriend and Justin says if he means Willow he hasn’t seen her since Mangrove River. Boyd has seen her car outside the surf club and Justin says if she’s in town she’s not with him. Boyd says they have 24 hours to get him his money or he’s going after them both.
Ash comes downstairs with Luc and he and Tori tell Alf, Irene, Leah and VJ about Kat’s pregnancy and that he’s the father. Ash says he can’t abandon the baby but needs to keep Luc safe as well. Mick bursts in and sees the suitcases, asking who’s going away. Alf and VJ tell him to get out. Mick says he’s tried to be nice but they all view him as scum and have never tried to accept him. No-one looks particularly chastened so he says he’s going for custody straightaway. A short time later, Leah tries to put a positive spin on it saying Mick doesn’t know whose the cases were but no-one’s buying it. She suggests Ash go away and come back for the birth, by which time Mick might have run out of money for lawyers or realised he can’t look after Luc, but neither Irene nor Ash think that’s likely. As the others mull on the apparently unsolvable conundrum, VJ offers a suggestion: if Ash can’t take Luc out of the country, he will.
