Extended Summary

Justin runs into Scarlett outside the bait shop and helps her with a bucket of worms. After a brief chat about fishing, he gets a phone call from Brody’s lawyer and explains that Brody is at an NA meeting. Alf talks to Scarlett, noting she and Justin seem to be getting on well again. Justin tells the lawyer that he’ll talk to the police. He goes to see Kat at the caravan park and awkwardly chats to her about her break-up with Ash. He then explains the real reason for him being there: Someone has accessed Brody’s police records and he wants to know what it’s about. At that moment, Kat gets a call from Irene.

Irene is at the police station, waiting for Hunter and Olivia. Kat, over the phone, can’t tell her why they’re there. Olivia is brought out and says Hunter’s still being questioned. She adds that Hunter did a robbery a long time ago and she knew and kept quiet. She then admits that the robbery was at the Diner. In the interview room, McCarthy asks Hunter if he thought he could keep it quiet forever. Hunter says he thought it was in the past. He asks about Olivia; McCarthy says what she did was a crime but the fact that she was a juvenile will be taken into account. Hunter signs his statement and McCarthy says it’s up to the DPP and the victims whether or not to prosecute. Hunter asks if it was Peggy that reported him. McCarthy says he can’t tell him that.

Kat and Justin enter the Diner with Kat on the phone to Murray. She tells Justin that the enquiry had nothing to do with the local police. Since the request was from Adelaide, Justin asks Scarlett, who is sat nearby, to look into it. Scarlett’s expression suggests she has her own ideas about what it’s about. Leah offers Kat a coffee on the house, saying she’s missed seeing her about and adding that she can stay because Ash is on the beach. Kat insists she doesn’t care and leaves. Leah follows her and apologises, saying she just knows what it’s like to have broken up with someone in a small town. She invites Kat to join her and Marilyn, who has just appeared, for a drink at Salt. After a bit of persuading, Kat agrees.

Irene berates Olivia, saying Hunter hurt Marilyn and tried to rip them off. Olivia says that Marilyn had recovered by the time she found out and the Diner had insurance. Hunter comes out and tries to apologise but Irene says she’s disappointed in them both. Hunter sarcastically congratulates Olivia. The two of them head home arguing. Hunter tells Olivia that Peggy wouldn’t have gone to the police if Olivia hadn’t spoken to her and now they’re both looking at jail, plus his grandmother hates him and he’s lost his chance of finding his real father. Olivia says he started it by calling Peggy and Hunter replies that Olivia nagged him into doing it. Olivia says she told Peggy he’d changed but he still won’t take responsibility.

Scarlett makes a phone call to Bruno and tells Justin that it was a PI looking for her who accessed the reports on the car jacking and house robbery. As they talk, someone takes photos of them. Scarlett tells Justin about paying Bruno off but says now someone else has been hired: Anderson. On cue, Anderson approaches them. Scarlett offers to pay him double to keep quiet but Anderson says he was paid up front and already sent the photos. He hands Scarlett a letter which she tells Justin is from her husband. At Salt, Leah tries to get Marilyn to tell Kat about John’s meditation CDs. Kat is feeling happier and Marilyn brings cocktails over. Kat proposes a toast to freedom.

In her caravan, Scarlett tells Justin that her husband wants her to go home but she can’t. She says something happened that changed Gary and he blamed her, but she can’t tell Justin what. Justin tells her to get her things packed and get her passport. Anderson listens in via a hidden microphone. At the Diner, Hunter turns up. Irene says she meant it when she said she didn’t want to see him or Olivia. Hunter apologises, saying he should have come forward earlier and doesn’t want to go back to old ways. Irene says she’s not going to press charges but thinks he should apologise to Leah and Marilyn. Hunter is hoping Marilyn won’t find out, saying it’ll just hurt her. Irene says Marilyn will find out, either from the police, from Irene or from Hunter.

Kat is declaring that they don’t need men, a philosophy that Marilyn isn’t exactly on board with but Leah happily embraces, adding that Kat was brave to walk away. Kat suddenly looks uncomfortable and leaves. Then Hunter turns up and tells them both what he did. Leah is shocked as Hunter says Marilyn’s coma and amnesia were his fault and he thought she should know. He adds that it was a stupid prank and he didn’t mean to hurt anyone. Marilyn says he was brave to come forward and she forgives him. Leah smiles as well. Next morning, Irene and Marilyn find Olivia has opened up the Diner. She says she’ll do it every day to make things up to them. Marilyn tells her she doesn’t have to. Irene notes Marilyn’s a better person than her but Marilyn thinks it was easier for her to forgive Hunter than for him to own up. Kat comes in and claims she had a nice time the previous night but isn’t entirely convincing.

Alf is annoyed that Hunter stayed the night with them without saying what he’d done but Leah and VJ defend him, saying it was a long time ago and he shouldn’t go to jail. Alf thinks he’s had too many second chances and prison would do him good. Justin turns up and says Scarlett has to go away for a while, for reasons he can’t explain. Alf accepts it and says he won’t tell anyone who comes looking. Meanwhile, Hunter arrives home. Olivia asks if he enjoyed it at VJ’s, who she called because she was worried about him. Hunter says he didn’t think she’d care and adds that he apologised to everyone. Kat turns up and tells them they’re off the hook: The DPP think there’s no chance of a conviction even with Hunter’s suspended sentence, since they were both minors and Irene, Leah and Marilyn don’t want to press charges. After she’s gone though, Olivia tells Hunter that the way they screamed at each other isn’t the way people who love each other and are going to be together forever behave.

Justin goes to Scarlett’s caravan where she is packed. However, as they leave, they are confronted by Anderson and a henchman. Anderson talks to Scarlett in private then tells Justin she’s agreed to come back with him. Justin reminds Scarlett she didn’t want to go back there and Scarlett admits she didn’t really want to go. Justin pushes both men over and he and Scarlett run to the car and speed off.
