Extended Summary

Phoebe’s disappointed to learn she has four weeks to find somewhere to live when her landlord decides to sell the farmhouse. Canvassing her options with Justin, she’s surprised when he suggests they move in together. Phoebe is delighted by the prospect and they begin looking for a new house to share together.

Tori is called into a special Board meeting at the hospital to discuss Riley’s surgeon’s report regarding Billie’s case, and is surprised to find Nate being grilled for the decisions he made while treating Billie. It becomes clear that – thanks to Riley’s report – there’s a serious cloud hanging over Nate.

Marilyn confides in Alf, revealing that John has been despondent and unresponsive since learning he is responsible for the bushfires. Alf offers to accompany her to the hospital to support her, and they’re both shocked when they try to jolly John out of his dark mood, only for him to reveal that he’s decided against having the life-saving surgery to remove his brain tumour.

Tori interrupts Justin and Phoebe at the house discussing their proposed move. Tori warns how Raffy might react to him leaving, and when she brings up her own personal problems with Riley, Justin realises it wouldn’t be fair to leave his siblings when they still need him. Instead he proposes that Phoebe should move in with them. Initially hesitant Justin manages to convince her. Now all they need to do is convince the rest of the Morgans.

Aware that Nate’s career could be seriously impacted by the investigation into Billie’s treatment, Tori takes it upon herself to review the file herself. When she finds a serious discrepancy, she takes it to Dr Chung and Nate is cleared. Tori’s suspicions have been raised, however, and she confronts Riley over after work drinks – did he deliberately overstate Billie’s ill health in his report in order to damage Nate’s career? When Riley hesitates, Tori realises Riley did set Nate up. Caught out, Riley reveals the full extent of his jealousy, claiming the way Tori rode to Nate’s rescue is proof that she still has feelings for the other doctor. Realising she has no idea who Riley really is, Tori walks away from their relationship, telling him she never wants to see him again. Afterward, Nate seeks her out to thank her for her efforts on his behalf, and Tori tells him that it’s over between her and Riley. Riley isn’t so convinced and turns up at the Morgan’s hoping to convince Tori to give him another shot. Tori remains firm and threatens to destroy his career if she ever sees him again.

Alf and Marilyn work together to try to convince John to reverse his decision, but it’s only when Marilyn is alone with John that she manages to cut through his determination to be punished for his sins with some tough love: if he really loves her, he will have the operation. Goaded by her challenge and heart felt words, John agrees to undergo the operation. Nate fills them in on the risks, and even though John is clearly fearful, he signs the forms. The morning of the operation, Marilyn walks alongside his bed as he’s wheeled into surgery. As he’s wheeled away, Marilyn is left with nothing but her hopes and fears.
