Extended Summary
Raffy is awake early, concerned for her gaoled sister yet unaware of Hope’s overdose. At the hospital, Nate sees to an out-cold Hope hooked up to a breathing apparatus. When Phoebe receives a call from Kat that Hope has been hospitalised, she and Justin rush over, concerned equally about Hope and Raffy. On arrival, Nate explains Hope’s overdose was accidental, but it’ll be another 24 hours until they know she’s in the clear. When Hope wakes, Nate gives her the third degree for stealing from his supplies, letting her know she could’ve died, as Justin and Phoebe look on from the hallway. Upon getting their chance to speak with her, Phoebe asks Justin for time alone with Hope, before showing Hope some tough love – she’s made some stupid mistakes and let Raffy down but shutting her out is not the answer, Raffy just wants honesty. Nate interrupts with good news, the results are in and, she’s been very lucky… But to Hope, gaol isn’t lucky. Following her release from hospital, Kat organises Hope a visit to Raffy at the farm before she’s returned to gaol, awaiting her hearing. This allows Hope to tell Raffy to stay with the Morgans. Raffy rejects the idea initially but Hope demands it as she’s taken away by police and Raffy’s left in tears. Later, a worried Justin is grateful of Phoebe’s efforts today as she reassures him that Raffy is tough, but also lucky to have found her family… But as Justin drives Raffy back to their house, it’s clear she’s still got a long way to go before she settles in as a Morgan.
Jeannie arrives for her first day on the job at Salt and a nervous Brody – the awkwardness is immediate. When she feeds him a strawberry Brody believes it’s a form of flirting, so he tries to spoon feed her his home-made strawberry sauce but she backs away repulsed by his motives just in time for Mason and Matt’s arrival to see it all. Brody begins to unload on them about Jeannie’s mixed signals, concerned he’s been single for so long he’s forgotten what the signals are! The boys are confident they can help but despite their best efforts, neither can agree, and some blunt advice from Evelyn to simply ask her, doesn’t help. As Jeannie’s shift comes to a close, she suggests to celebrate with a drink. Over a cocktail and some cute banter, Jeannie thanks Brody for taking a chance on her and she gives him a kiss on the cheek. When he responds with one on the lips, Jeannie pushes him backwards into a serving trolley so he kicks her out of his restaurant.
At the diner, birthday messages are coming through on Evelyn’s phone as Matt arrives, eager to hang out, but she gives him nothing but a cold shoulder. A sympathetic Leah comes to her table aware, her birthday is not the same without Oscar. But Evelyn reassures Leah she’s doing better than expected, providing no one makes a big deal about the day. Later, Leah arrives with a cake, as Evelyn receives another reminder of her brother. When Matt calls her with an emergency, which turns out to be nothing more than woman’s advice for Brody, she tells Matt and the boys that if all they’ve got to worry about is a girl’s affections, they’ve got it pretty good, and Matt realises she’s not her normal Evelyn. When he catches up with her, she tells him the truth yet knowing full well Oscar would be right in there with the boys. Matt suggests a trip to Yabbie Creek but Evelyn just wants to be on her own for a bit…
