Extended Summary
When Roo reveals that Caroline has fled with Bryce, Duncan contacts the police. But Kat can’t help – Caroline hasn’t done anything illegal yet. Desperate, Duncan shows Kat the drugs they found in Caroline’s van. Kat finds that Caroline has checked into a motel and heads over with Duncan. As he speaks with Caroline in her room, Roo arrives, and lets slip that Ash supplied Caroline with the drugs. Kat heads off, and Roo goes up to Caroline’s room, where Duncan bursts out with Bryce. Roo thinks that Caroline needs to tell Duncan the truth, but she can’t come clean and hurries away.
Later, Caroline returns to find Duncan waiting for her. When she still won’t tell him what’s going on, Duncan snaps, furious Caroline won’t just be honest. Caroline finally reveals that she has Huntington’s disease, and Duncan pulls her in tight as she cries. Duncan takes Caroline and Bryce back to Alf’s. With the truth now out, there’s a long road ahead of the family, and Alf and Roo will be there for them.
Worried about missing out on a big career opportunity, Brody wonders if he should go ahead and let the food critic write an article about his restaurant. But Justin and Phoebe are concerned the exposure might lead the syndicate back to the Morgans and put the family in danger. Brody tells Phoebe that the real reason he wants to succeed is for his mum, so she has a happier legacy than just being a murder victim. But he comes to his senses and tells the food critic he can’t go ahead with it. Phoebe gives Brody a supportive hug. Later, the shadow of the family’s dark secret hangs over Justin and Phoebe as well. Despite their strong feelings for each other, the danger is still too great for them to get back together.
On board with Hunter’s idea to take a gap year travelling the world together, Olivia asks Irene if she can access her trust to fund the trip. But Irene refuses, worried it’s nothing more than a silly hair-brained scheme. Meanwhile, Hunter looks into getting a junior lifeguard job to raise the cash. Leah thinks it’s all happening too fast, and suggests Hunter speaks to Zac about his plans. Zac agrees with Leah, and suspects the whole thing is Olivia’s idea. Then when Hunter goes back to Olivia and she suggests they put it on hold, he won’t listen and is determined they keep working to make it happen. Privately, Olivia’s forced to push down her doubts.
Frustrated that Ash is holding back the full story about Simmo, Kat’s forced to move on. But when Kat learns via Roo that Ash bought drugs for Caroline, she finds him at the Caravan Park. She can’t believe he’d be so stupid, but Ash argues he had no choice – if he sees someone suffering, he’s going to help them, even if it’s illegal. Kat realises how much she still loves him and they kiss, unable to deny their feelings any longer.
