Zac and Leah each privately struggle being apart. Duncan confronts Caroline about messing with his relationship. Chris’s struggle to move on leads to big life change.
Extended Summary
It’s the morning after for Zac and Leah. Zac’s wondering if this means he should move back in, but Leah doesn’t think sleeping together should change anything. The whole point of living apart is to eliminate the domestic side, and keep the fun bits. They resolve to enjoy their flirty lifestyle a little while longer.
Chris sits alone in his bedroom looking at old photos of Hannah. He’s clearly struggling with his grief again. Nate arrives and forces him out into the world for the day. Nate does his best to help Chris shake his lethargy, but it proves difficult just to get him out and about. They eventually settle on going for a swim. In their travels they cross with Marilyn and John, two love birds brimming with joy. Feeling overwhelmed Chris snaps at Nate, he needs space.
Duncan finds Tori at the Diner, and immediately picks up on her awkward demeanour. Tori doesn’t think Caroline would approve of them hanging out. Duncan is clear, he doesn’t care what Caroline thinks and neither should Tori. Caroline shows up at the beach, and Tori decides it’s time to get out of there, suggesting Duncan talk to his wife if he wants to know why… Duncan explodes at Caroline, furious at her for going behind his back. He’s adamant that she’s never going to be a big part of his life again. Caroline bites back; she’s still the mother of his child. He’s forced to admit that he respects her as a mother and wants to make things right. Duncan is determined to remain parents and friends. Whatever they had romantically is over. Caroline takes this in, her hands trembling unnaturally…
Billie comes across Leah meticulously cleaning the house. She’s obviously doing her best to distract herself from missing Zac. Being apart isn’t as fulfilling as she’d hoped. It seems there are sacrifices to be made if you’re going to keep things fresh. Meanwhile, Zac downloads to VJ, he’s given Leah a hundred hints that he wants to move back, but she seems to be enjoying the current setup, he’s just going to have to keep sacrificing to make her happy.
Nate chats to Marilyn, John and Irene about Chris. They’re all worried for Chris. John volunteers to go have a chat with him. Chris finally opens up – he thought Hannah and him would grow old together like Marilyn and John. Everywhere Chris looks he’s tortured by the memory of Hannah.
Billie and VJ each trick Leah and Zac into meeting up at the house. They’ve arranged an elaborate diner for the two, encouraging each of them to finally be honest. Leah admits she’s been lying; she actually really wants Zac back in the house. Zac is bemused, he feels the same way. They’ve both been miserable for no reason. It seems they already have everything they need, right here.
Duncan shows up at Tori’s to apologise. He assures her that she has nothing to worry about. Tori doesn’t want to be the ‘other woman.’ Duncan is clear – Tori is the only woman. However, Tori is adamant, her own life is complicated enough as it is – it’s time they stop seeing each other. Duncan leaves, devastated.
Chris finally shows up at the Diner, everyone is thrilled to see him out and about. Chris announces that he’s been feeling stuck ever since Hannah’s death, unable to move on. He wants them to be the first to know that he’s decided to leave the Bay…
