Extended Summary

Phoebe’s annoyed at Justin for standing her up. He doesn’t even give her an excuse for why he’s late for their date.
She tries to press on but Justin shuts the date down, he doesn’t think they should do this – and with that cryptic statement, he leaves her alone.

Tori, meanwhile, feels horribly awkward, following the reveal that Caroline, Duncan’s ex-wife, has arrived for a surprise visit, with their five year old son, Bryce. Tori can’t wait to beat a hasty retreat… And Duncan’s left to question Caroline – what is she doing here? Caroline claims she’s here to see that Duncan’s okay, having heard about the plane crash. Alf and Roo are similarly taken aback to find Caroline here in the Bay… And Alf’s suspicious… If she was so worried about Duncan, couldn’t she have simply made a phone call? Caroline’s evasive, particularly in regards to how long she’s staying in the Bay… What’s really going on here?

Tori, meanwhile, finds the opportunity to apologise to Nate, for jumping to conclusions about his meeting with the woman from CareFlight. Friendship restored, Nate now questions Tori about what’s obviously on her mind… Tori admits she doesn’t know where she stands with Duncan, given the unexpected arrival of Caroline. Whilst it’s tough for Nate to hear Tori talking about her feelings for another man, he counsels her to confront Duncan and ask him what’s going on, rather than making herself crazy.

Justin vents to Brody, annoyed after his run in with Decker. Just as he thought they could get on with their lives, they need to keep worrying about the syndicate and crooked cops. Brody thinks Justin to explain to Phoebe what’s going on, but Justin wants to keep her out of danger. Brody says that should be up to Phoebe.

Phoebe, meanwhile, is down about Justin. Chris offers to beat him up for her, but Phoebe admits she doesn’t need him beat up, she’s worried about him. Chris doesn’t get it, but Phoebe can’t help but care.

Brody is troubled by the recurring memories he’s having of an incident with his mother, when he was just a child. He questions Tori about her memories of Kate, their mum. Did Tori ever remember her being angry, or scared? Tori admits she remembers her mother being pretty close to perfect… That’s how Brody had always thought of her, too… But he’s starting to wonder if there was a whole lot more going on that he never knew about…

Tensions flare between Alf and Caroline, as she accuses him of never giving her a chance. Alf doesn’t take kindly to the jibe, and thinks Caroline’s in no position to be throwing accusations around, given the way she’s behaved towards Duncan. Roo later urges Alf to try to make more of an effort with Caroline, for Duncan’s sake. Alf admits he can’t help the way he feels… And he’s positive Caroline’s here to cause trouble…

Meanwhile, Duncan assures Tori that Caroline’s arrival doesn’t change things… Tori’s left uncertain, however… and when Nate requires a professional reference for the CareFlight interview process, Tori’s happy to supply him with one. Chris is amazed when he reads what Tori’s written in the reference… she’s described Nate in such glowing terms, he’s sure this means that she likes him as more than just a colleague… Chris thinks Nate shouldn’t give up hope yet, when it comes to Tori…

Phoebe confronts Justin at the garage. He asks if she’s sure she wants to know – she is. Justin opens up and spills all – there’s a rat in the police force that could put them all in danger. Justin assumes she’s going to walk away now. Phoebe surprises him, she’s not walking away, but she does need time to think… Phoebe returns that night and kisses Justin goodbye – In another life it could’ve worked out.

Brody has another memory flash of his mother… He’s just a little boy, and his mother angrily tells him that the whole family will be in big trouble if Brody doesn’t forget a conversation Kate’s assumed he heard… Brody’s left feeling even more troubled… What was the deal with his mother? What is it that he can’t remember?
