Extended Summary

Phoebe takes Ellie out for food to talk through her incident at school with the teacher. Finding Ellie sullen and withdrawn Phoebe must take her time. Phoebe gently pries Ellie open and she’s shocked to discover the reason for Ellie’s outburst at the school – Ellie couldn’t do a test and she’s convinced she’s stupid. Matt arrives and the siblings finally have a chance to really talk. Matt learns the truth of Ellie’s behavioural issues, and he too is shocked… but he’s also highly motivated. Following a hunch, he reaches out to a counsellor to confirm his suspicion… Ellie is dyslexic. Despite her fears, Matt is already organising tutoring. Seeing his commitment, Ellie is deeply affected, bringing brother and sister even closer together.

Another brother and sister also find themselves at odds when Roo learns Duncan’s plans for his future. Delighted to hear he wants to stay in the Bay, she grows genuinely apprehensive as he lays out his desire to buy into a local seaplane business – and ask their father to buy in with him. Alf and Duncan have only just repaired their relationship after years of misunderstandings and misjudgement. Isn’t Duncan inviting more of the same? Watching his pitch to their father, Roo’s fears look like being realised, but Alf surprises them both with his enthusiastic “yes”. It seems Duncan will be staying in the Bay indefinitely.

A prospect that brings his blossoming relationship with Tori into sharp relief after she has a run-in with Nate and he accuses her of only being with Duncan because he’s going to leave. Is he right? Tori refuses to accept that. Fronting up to Duncan’s later, Tori is still busily trying to convince herself Nate’s wrong when she is confronted by an all together new challenge… Duncan’s wife and son…

Also in the self denial game, Phoebe refuses to give in to her attraction to Justin. But that is further tested when he musters the courage to finally ask her out. Well, almost… in fact, Justin only asks her to “hang out”, an underwhelming offer she leaves hanging. But later, throwing caution to the wind, Phoebe agrees to the date, but as she waits for him…

… Justin’s efforts to shut Decker out catch up with him. Driven to desperate measures by Justin’s stony resolve to keep him out of the Morgans’ lives, Decker engineers an arrest for Justin – so he can put forward his plea for help more forcefully. Furious, cornered and despite Decker’s surprise assertion that there’s more to the Morgan story than he knows – Justin lashes out at Decker, leaving him alone with the walls closing in… but just what is the secret he is hiding?
