Extended Summary

A hurt Roo chases Duncan down the driveway, demanding to know why he didn’t tell them about his son until now but Duncan doesn’t have an answer. Disappointed, Roo storms off leaving Duncan remorseful. Meanwhile a furious Alf vents to Leah about Duncan’s revelation insisting he only told them because he wanted Alf to put him back in his will. Sceptical, Leah suggests Alf speak to Duncan about it again. But Alf refuses as a hurt Roo returns.

Later, Leah discovers Duncan packing to leave the Bay for good. She implores him to stay and give it one more chance with Alf. Duncan is left with food for thought and after some consideration approaches Alf and Roo to tell the whole story. He explains his life is a mess –he’d just got his pilot license when he found out his wife was having an affair. Soon after she moved across the country so he never sees his son. Roo is sympathetic. Duncan finally admits he didn’t want Alf to find out he was a failure like Alf always said he would be. Remorseful, Alf admits he shouldn’t have said such hurtful things. Alf accepts Duncan’s story and the two come to a tentative truce. They share a beer and go night fishing leaving a pleased Roo relieved that there’s peace once more.

Meanwhile, a shocked Marilyn and John are entertaining their surprise guest, Jordan’s Dad, Aaron. As they wait for Jordan to return home from school, Aaron hints that he wants to be part of Jordan’s life again sending John and Marilyn into a tailspin. Jordan arrives home from school and is shocked to learn his father is there. Despite Aaron’s warmth, Jordan is guarded and uncertain. Marilyn and John check with Jordan and decide to leave them alone to talk. Aaron makes a heartfelt plea – inviting Jordan to come and live with him. Jordan comes to tell Marilyn and John the situation, announcing that he’s so confused. Later, John and Marilyn nervously chat to Irene about the situation when Aaron arrives at the Diner alone. He reveals that he is leaving the Bay as Jordan wants to stay with them. Aaron thanks them for giving Jordan a proper home and a relieved Marilyn and John wish him well. Marilyn and John return home to find a quiet Jordan opening Aaron’s birthday gift. Jordan reveals his trepidation at the idea of living with his father and Marilyn and John reassure him that he is welcome to live with them for as long as he likes.

A stressed Evelyn confides to Olivia that she is worried no one will come to the sleep out. Wanting to help, Olivia convinces a nearby Jordan to come along. Feeling good, Olivia smiles at a passing Hunter who blanks her. Olivia is crushed but tries to hide it from a concerned Evelyn. Later, a downcast Olivia is sitting at the beach when she’s spotted by an old friend, Tabitha, from group counselling who has just moved to the Bay. Tabitha reveals she is starting Summer Bay High the following week so Olivia invites her along to the sleep out. Olivia and Tabitha go to Salt and bump into Evelyn and Mason. Olivia introduces Evelyn to Tabitha but a distracted Evelyn rushes off causing Tabitha to re-think whether she should go to the sleep out after all. Olivia reassures her, insisting she needs the company. Olivia reveals she has broken up with Hunter but that she is looking forward to hanging out with her new friend. Later, Tabitha, Olivia and Jordan bond and hang out at the sleep out.

Evelyn is stressed and nervous about the sleep out. After talking to Olivia she starts to worry it will turn into a raucous party. She goes to the Diner to pick up the sandwiches and is surprised at how much Irene has prepared. Seeing she is anxious, Irene gives her support. Buoyed by her kind words, Evelyn picks up the platters and goes to leave but almost drops them. Mason saves the day and the two reconnect – picking up where they left off. Mason helps her carry the platters to school. When they arrive Phoebe calls to tell Evelyn she can’t help out tonight sending Evelyn into a panic. Mason offers assistance and together they go to Salt to collect the soft drink. While Mason is frantically taking the soft drink he reveals to Evelyn that Brody would lose it if he discovered Mason there. Evelyn panics and hurries Mason along. Mason finally finishes, enjoying the adventure but a chatty Olivia waylays Evelyn and introduces her to Tabitha. Evelyn manages to get away and rushes off with Mason. Later, the sleep out begins and is going well. Evelyn relaxes and agrees to take a short break with Mason. As they chat, Mason misinterprets the signals and goes in for a kiss surprising Evelyn who pulls back in confusion. Realising his mistake, a mortified Mason rushes off leaving Evelyn speechless.
