Nate is torn between Danika and Tori. Billie and VJ get back together. Justin’s family refuse to forgive him.

Extended Summary

With Danika seeming more invested in their romance than he is, Nate tries to put on the brakes and decides to spend an RDO cheering Tori up instead. Tori’s still not talking to Justin after finding out he was present for their parents’ deaths, but the distance isn’t making her happy, no matter how hard she distracts herself.

VJ informs Leah and Zac about his break-up, and both he and Billie are clearly miserable. Leah realises VJ doesn’t really understand what went wrong, so she tracks down Billie the following day in the hopes of getting an explanation. Billie skates close to the truth and admits she feels as if she and the baby are ruining VJ’s life, and that he’ll regret the decisions he’s making now down the track. Leah urges her to accept VJ’s support but Billie rushes away.

Phoebe learns Justin’s siblings are still ignoring him and she’s determined to keep supporting him, letting him have “emergency accommodation” at her place. She’s pleased to find Brody’s back at work, but their banter sours when Phoebe goes in to bat for Justin. Brody’s having none of it – as far as he’s concerned, Justin is a liar and Phoebe should have nothing to do with him. Phoebe also agrees to return to teaching music classes next week, and to be a supervisor for Evelyn’s charity school sleep-out. Meanwhile Justin’s loses his job at the Bait Shop when Alf decides he’s well enough to return.

Nate’s plan to cheer up Tori is off to a rocky start when he unveils a beach volleyball kit – Tori hates volleyball. But Nate refuses to be dissuaded, pushing her to get out of her comfort zone. Tori reluctantly gives it a shot, but it’s clear she’s not really having fun. Nate calls an end to the game, suggesting a swim at The Rock pool. Tori won’t go in fully clothed but Nate’s happy to swim in his shorts, and Tori’s struck by the sight of him topless. Her feelings for Nate are clearly growing as she opens up about Justin – she honestly can’t see how they’re going to get through it. But being out with Nate is really helping. Tori tells Nate how grateful she is, only to be interrupted by Nate getting a text from Danika. Instinctively guilty and confused by his feelings, Nate calls an end to their day out. He and Tori relax into old banter until they run into Danika. Oblivious to Tori, Danika kisses Nate hello, knocking Tori for six.

When Zac learns VJ didn’t try to talk Billie out of breaking up with him, he encourages his stepson to tell her how upset he is. Meanwhile Billie is planning to do a runner from Summer Bay and is writing a letter to VJ, which tells him he’s not her baby’s father. She has to hide the letter and suitcase when VJ turns up and pleads with her to give their relationship a second chance. Despite her guilt, Billie agrees. Zac and Leah arrange for them to move into a caravan and Billie rips up her confession, deciding to stick to her original plan.

After Justin’s attempt to talk to Brody is shot down, Phoebe tries to chat to Tori but she isn’t in the mood and tells Phoebe to back off. Later, Tori calls in on Nate to return his hat and claims she’s happy he’s dating again. Nate’s confused and disappointed by her enthusiasm for Danika, but the truth is Tori’s gutted he’s seeing someone else.
