Extended Summary

Found unconscious, Brody is rushed into the hospital, where Tori is reduced from doctor to simple family member and the Morgans stand by while a large medical effort swings into action. Meanwhile, Nate is questioning his own choices after his one afternoon stand with Danika and is glad for the chance to escape when Tori puts out a call for help. Arriving at the hospital, Nate questions where Tori was, but she brushes off with a story about a sick grandma; no reception at her place in the bush. Nate accepts this for now and heads in to help with Brody. As the siblings wait for news, Decker turns up. They have a private meeting and Decker informs them that the man who shot their parents, Blaine Vardner, is behind bars. So is Lara. The third man, Spike, got away but all their intel points to this being a separate operation from The Syndicate – they have no idea where the Morgans are; Blaine was just trying to get revenge on Justin. Justin’s doubtful they’re safe but Decker assures there’s no reason for them to be relocated at this stage. They should go back to their lives here, in Summer Bay.

Finally Nate returns with news of Brody – he’s not yet awake but he’s stable. Tori and Mason enter his room, and the longer Brody remains unconscious, the more Mason frets that it was his relationship with Lara that his brother may have to pay for. Just as genuine gloom begins to set in, Brody rallies, waking and everyone is elated to have him back. But Justin, still feeling guilty over lying to his siblings, slinks out of the room. Nate clocks the tension and later question Tori on it – he doesn’t believe her story of events that Brody simply tripped over at their grandmother’s place. Tori goes on the defensive to get him off the trail, then laments she just wants to forget the last few days and have things go back to normal. Nate is only concerned because she’s stressed but agrees to drop it, much to Tori’s relief. But in truth, Tori is deeply rattled by their near-death experience and the truth she’s learned about Justin and their dad…

Having reached out to Duncan, despite her father’s express wishes – and Leah’s advice – Roo soon finds herself on the wrong side of Alf. Admitting her transgression, Roo pleads with Alf to own his part of his years-long fight with Duncan and begin the process of reconciling. But Alf flares instead, ordering her to pack her things and move out. At the diner, Matt and Leah offer their support. But even though Roo knows she overstepped, she has to make one last ditch appeal to Alf. She reminds Alf that Duncan is his son – and this isn’t going to get solved if one of you doesn’t pick up the phone. Alf’s adamant it won’t be him but in frustration, Roo is brutally honest and wonders how Alf would feel if he had another health scare and never got the chance to make things right with Duncan. Roo leaves him to ponder and the question is, will Alf finally listen?

Now Brody’s been given the all clear, Tori and Mason go to find Justin for a long overdue confrontation. He admits he stuffed up but Tori is way past that point. She yells and cries, still incredulous he lied to them for 7 years about what he knew and how their mother died protecting Justin. Justin tells them everything – he tried to talk his dad into getting out of the game, going to the cops, but he couldn’t stop him in time. It’s clear Justin blames himself for all of it, but Tori’s not ready to give any sympathy. With a stern face, she tells Justin to stay out of their lives. Justin looks to Mason for an olive branch, but he gives none. After all this, it seems Justin may have lost his family anyway. The next morning, Phoebe finds Justin on the beach, having stayed there overnight. He’s sullen and doesn’t share much apart from the fact that he’s no longer welcome at home. A bemused and concerned Phoebe offers him the spare room at her house. Justin hesitates, but he’s got nowhere else to go.

Over at the garage, Ash is wrestling with his own dilemma. $50,000 in the hole after Andy’s disappearance, the garage is now staggering under the weight of crippling debt. However, what no-one knows is that Andy has left Ash exactly that amount in cash. But can he use it? Ethically? Legally? Ash is hiding it at the garage, inside the printer in the office. Ash’s distracted attitude draws Matt’s concern and Ash admits a half truth – yeah, he’s stressed about the debt the business is in but Matt shouldn’t worry – he’s sorting it. Clearly burdened, Ash throws himself into work, but when Kat gets a tip-off and turns up at the garage on official business, the decision may be taken out of Ash’s hands. Kat hands him a warrant to search the premises for evidence of car rebirthing, and with Andy’s dirty money stashed nearby, Ash may be about to lose his business and his girlfriend…
