Evelyn and Josh try to wed in secret. Andy struggles with his guilt over the accident. VJ’s efforts to woo Billie seem to be working, but Billie is still haunted by her assault.

Extended Summary

Having sprung the suggestion of moving the wedding up, Evelyn finds that Josh is uneasy, concerned about where the idea has come from. Evelyn admits she feels like she’s losing everyone around her, but rather than confirm it’s about her grief-stricken state, she asserts it’s about embracing life and the one constant she’s been able to count on through all the tragedy – him. Going with her passion, Josh agrees and the date is set – tomorrow!

Zac returns from giving Tank a serve. Zac tells Leah he blames himself; if he hadn’t helped Tank get parole then none of this would’ve happened. Leah assures him it’s not his fault – He did what he thought was right at the time. Meanwhile, VJ runs off to drop in on Billie. He apologises for trying to kiss her at the wake – awkward – but admits he can’t get her out of his head. He thinks she’s amazing, and even though he’s pretty sure them sleeping together last week was a lot about grief, he would really like to call her in a few days…. and maybe she won’t hang up? Billie is smiling, flattered by his sweet words. She agrees wryly not to hang up on him. VJ hurries out, happy with that small win.

And he’s still glowing when he gets home, only to be grilled by a suspicious Hunter. Learning of VJ’s great fortune, some brotherly banter ensues, but when VJ says all he’s worked out is that he’s going to call her.. in a few days… Hunter thinks it’s a great idea – if he wants Billie to forget he exists! VJ begins to worry about his approach.

Returning home, Josh is eager to check in on Andy, having been deeply concerned at the state he found him earlier in the afternoon. And he doesn’t seem much better now, dodging Josh’s best efforts to engage him. Instead, he escapes on a mystery errand – which turns out to be a visit to see Tank in the hospital. Tormented, waiting for the police to show up in the wake of the deadly accident – for his part in it – Andy demands to know if Tank’s talked to the police yet. Tank confesses that he intends to take the rap as pay-back for all the harm he’s caused. Deeply unsettled, Andy’s guilt begins to tear him apart.

The next day, Alf crosses with an edgy Evelyn and Josh. He enquires as to how Evelyn’s feeling today and she assures she’s feeling better. The pair make up an excuse as to why they’re all dressed up just to go to “breakfast” and head away in haste, leaving Alf suspicious. In fact, Evelyn and Josh steal away to the Registry Office, intent on following through on their pact to bring the wedding forward. At home however, Alf shares his curious encounter with the young couple earlier to Leah and Zac just as his sits down to the computer. As the screen comes to life, there’s a web page about the registry office left open. The three adults put it together and the race is on.

Meanwhile, Billie gets a text from VJ “Surf’s Up. You in?” On the beach, VJ is pleasantly surprised when Billie does in fact turn up. There share a sweet kiss and enjoy a day of surfing. Later, Billie is giggling back at home, on the phone to VJ, happy for the distraction. Finally they hang up but as Billie heads to shower, she notices her gym uniform in the washing basket – she has a flashback of her assault. Suddenly her beautiful day with VJ is gone, replaced by anguish.

As Josh and Evelyn begin taking their vows, it looks as if their plan will be successful and that they’ll be Summer Bay’s newest married couple. But at the last moment, Leah and Zac burst in and plead with them to listen to reason. If they marry now, their wedding day will be forever tainted with the grief gripping them. Evelyn and Josh look to each other, knowing it’s true.

As Evelyn and Josh arrive home, sans wedding certificate, we get a glimpse into the pain Evelyn has been fighting so valiantly to hold back. In a private moment, Evelyn tearfully confesses her agony at losing her chance to have her brother walk her down the aisle and Josh reassures that no matter what, he will always be with her.

Finally, as Tank is indeed arrested and charged for in the death and destruction of the charity ball, Greg pleads with his son to tell Kat the truth, but Tank sticks to taking sole responsibility. Greg catches up with Andy at the diner and tries to get out of him what he & Tank talked about last night. Andy keeps directing him to talk to his son but Greg can’t – Tank’s been arrested. Andy’s guilt spikes as Greg pleads with him that he can’t lose his son. If Andy knows something, he has to tell the police. Andy faces his moment of truth and heads to the station, confessing to Kat that he caused the explosion…
