Extended Summary
Having just learnt she’s pregnant, Billie is unable to sleep. Phoebe finds her crying but assumes it’s simply grief – only for Billie to tell her the truth of her attack. Shocked, Phoebe insists she has to go to the police but Billie’s reluctant, fearing they won’t believe her after she falsely accused Nate. Phoebe assures her that won’t be the case but Billie can’t be swayed, making Phoebe promise not to say anything.
Meanwhile, Olivia and Hunter remain worried about Irene’s unexplained disappearance. Olivia admits to Alf and Roo they could really use her right now as Chris is refusing to go to Hannah’s funeral. Roo’s hopeful he’ll come around but Hunter’s unsure – they don’t even know who was responsible for the accident – how’s Chris meant to grieve if he can’t blame anyone? Aware of Tank’s involvement, Alf’s quick to change the topic, the burden of what he knows weighing on him.
It’s the day of the funerals and Zac tries to keep his family together, doing his best to be stoic – especially for Evelyn. All Andy can do is watch on from a distance, his guilt eating him up. Evelyn remains strong during the service, including Zac’s heartfelt eulogy, but when it comes to the end and she tries to place a rose on Hannah and Oscar’s coffins, she finally breaks down. Josh cradles her as she cries.
After the ceremony, Greg offers Alf his condolences but Alf’s more interested in whether he’s spoken to Tank. Greg hasn’t and Alf alerts him to Tank’s involvement. Greg can’t believe it’s true but Tank, unwilling to reveal Andy’s culpability, takes the entire blame himself.
At the wake, Phoebe checks in on Billie, who insists she’s fine and Phoebe shouldn’t worry about her. She asks Billie if she’s told Ash about her attack? Billie shakes her head – Ash would go nuts. Meanwhile, Josh notices Andy’s absence and is a little worried. Later searching for him, Josh is surprised to find Andy at home, slumped on the kitchen floor, sobbing. Still in the dark about Andy’s involvement, Josh assumes it’s simply about losing Hannah and comforts his distraught brother.
Back at Summer Bay House, Leah asks Billie if she ever got the casserole she sent – Billie reports VJ brought it over and thanks Leah. Leah enquires about Billie and VJ’s friendship, and gives Billie the heads up about his crush. Billie shares that she knows. Leah doesn’t want her to feel uncomfortable and reminds Billie she’s welcome in their home anytime; Billie’s done so much for their family. Along with Leah’s kindness, Billie notes the support Zac and Evelyn have around them at this time. Billie glances back at VJ – what is she thinking? Later, when VJ and Billie finally have a moment to talk, VJ brings up last week. He admits he had a great time with her, even with everything else going on. Billie smiles, but when VJ leans in to kiss her, Billie makes a quick exit, unsure of her feelings for him.
Inside the house, Leah finally gets a text from Irene – it says not to worry and she thinks she’s found her child. She discusses with Alf & Roo whether to alert her to news of Hannah and Oscar, but they decide not to in the end. With Olivia, Hunter & Skye gathered around, the conversation turns to the accident. Hunter can’t believe how lucky they all are – it could have been any one of them not coming home. Uncomfortable at the reminder, Skye makes an escape, arousing Olivia’s suspicions. Checking on her, Olivia assumes she’s struggling with Oscar’s death but as she comforts her, Skye cracks and reveals she knows who caused the explosion. Hunter, who’s overheard immediately asks, who? Skye reveals it was Tank. Storming inside, Hunter interrupts Zac and Evelyn and tells them Tank killed Hannah and Oscar. Fired up Zac questions Kat about why she hasn’t arrested Tank but she’s unable to discuss the investigation. Frustrated, Zac takes the matter into his own hands and heads to the hospital to confront Tank. He demands to know why he did it – especially after Zac stood up for him. Tank doesn’t have any answers. Zac threatens him as he’s being dragged off Tank by Greg – you’ll pay for this.
Needing a break, Evelyn escapes to the beach – but is soon found by a worried Josh. Today has just confirmed for her how short life is and how they have to make the most of every moment. Josh agrees and when Evelyn reveals she wants to marry him, dryly admits it’s lucky that he proposed. But Evelyn clarifies – she doesn’t want to wait, she wants to get married tomorrow.
