Kyle helps Isla to escape, but lands himself in trouble. Lindsay’s recklessness leads to a showdown with Olivia. Ricky puts her wedding in jeopardy.

Extended Summary

Isla has taken the staff of the Reefton Lakes Tavern hostage in a desperate bid to get money. Kyle arrives just as she locks the staff in the storeroom. He tries to talk her out of going through with the robbery but she’s too irrational to listen. In her mind, this is the only way she’ll get the money she needs to win back custody of her kids.

Back in the Bay, Nate has tracked down Ricky at Angelo’s in the wake of her meltdown. They both apologise but Ricky does agree Nate was being a bit full on. She really can’t deal with some fancy, overblown ceremony – the idea of any wedding makes her skin crawl. Nate thinks this is a bad sign if you want to get married. Ricky admits she wants to elope, but Nate doesn’t want to. He wants their wedding to be a celebration, in front of their friends and family, but Ricky refuses to budge.

While studying, Skye and VJ can’t help talking about the fallout from Olivia and Hunter’s breakup. Skye learns, much to her surprise, that Hunter has zero interest in Lindsay because he’s still pining for Olivia. At the Diner, Olivia runs into Drew and expects him to be just as vile as Lindsay. After copping a serve, Drew reveals the truth about Lindsay – she’s a troublemaker. She even paid him to crack onto Olivia at the party last week. Olivia later debriefs with Skye and they realise Lindsay has been playing Hunter and Olivia off against each other in an attempt to get her claws into Hunter. Skye convinces Olivia into talking things out with Hunter so Olivia heads off to his place…

Meanwhile, Lindsay and Hunter are eating after watching the movie. Lindsay wants to continue hanging out but Hunter’s not really in the mood (given his heartbreak over Olivia) so tries to call it a night. Lindsay, eager to ingratiate herself, suggests they do something fun to take his mind off things – like go for a joyride in Alf’s ute. Hunter refuses but she takes the keys anyway. Despite his protests, she climbs into the ute and drives off. He runs after her, trying to open the door, but she accelerates and accidentally throws him to the ground. Olivia, having arrived just in time to see everything, rushes to the aid of the unconscious Hunter. Lindsay fears the worst and makes a run for it, but Olivia calls an ambulance. Luckily after a short while, Hunter comes around anyway.

Determined to protect Hunter, Olivia confronts Lindsay about the incident. He appears to have escaped injury but that doesn’t excuse what Lindsay did. Olivia threatens to go to the police unless Lindsay promises to leave Summer Bay and never return. Lindsay reluctantly agrees, having no real choice. Later, Hunter and Olivia finally get a moment alone. His close call has made Olivia realise how much she still loves him. After Hunter promises never to betray her again, they put their issues behind them and reconcile.

After some not-so-subtle advice from Roo, Ricky tries to bridge the gap with Nate by suggesting a compromise. He can have his wedding ceremony, so long as it’s something simple. Although reluctant at first, he’s soon throwing around suggestions like a small beach ceremony and a reception at the surf club – although Ricky still needs a great dress. They both smile and finally feel the excitement in equal measure.

Back in Reefton Lakes, Isla is furiously trying to open the safe to no avail. Kyle is pleading that they have to leave; they’ve been here way too long already. Isla refuses and as she continues to try the safe, the police turn up and quickly have the club surrounded. Kat makes a call to the club but Isla won’t answer it, unwilling to negotiate. She even pulls the phone from it’s socket when Kyle tries to answer. Isla is unravelling fast, but Kyle manages to talk her into releasing the hostages. Kat talks to the manager and from his information she deduces that the perpetrator is likely Isla Fisher and probably one of her old male associates. Meanwhile inside, Kyle tries to talk Isla into turning herself over but Isla knows that would mean never seeing her girls again. Kyle says she has no other option but Isla thinks she could fight her way out – with her gun. Police storm the club, then at the last minute Kyle helps Isla escape through the ceiling. However, just as she shuts the vent, the police yell – FREEZE – Kyle puts his hands on his head and lowers to his knees. As the cuffs are put on and he turns around, Kat is shocked to see the man they’ve arrested is Kyle.
