Extended Summary
Maddy goes off at Matt at the diner for hitting a guy, which Leah overhears. She too has a go, reminding Matt of the weeks Josh was in hospital over one punch. Matt is doleful as he reflects on punching the guy in the face. Maddy hates seeing him like this so agrees, even though he was an idiot for doing it, that they should forget it ever happened. Matt is thankful and soon gets more good news – a message from Andy that Ash has agreed and he’s got a trial for an apprenticeship this afternoon. Maddy, Josh and Evelyn are excited for him. However the high its short-lived when Roo arrives to inform Matt the police are looking for him regarding the allegation of an assault.
Kat comes across a downtrodden Ash on the beach. Ash tells her he broke up with Phoebe, much to Kat’s shock. She’s positive the couple can get through it but Ash believes it’s really done this time. As Kat tries to console him, Dylan watches from a distance, not happy with their obvious bond. Later, Dylan sees Ash outside Angelo’s and asks him how the garage is going. Ash reports that things are looking good, surprised by Dylan’s effort to chat. But whilst they’re talking, Dylan’s eyes wander to Kat, who is having a drink on the balcony of Angelo’s. Ash goes inside and confronts Kat, asking her if something is going on between her and Dylan. Kat’s silence says it all. Ash can’t believe it = how could she go back to him after what he did? Kat asks him to keep it quiet and tries to convince him that Dylan has changed. She explains how Dylan was dealing with the loss of his son at the times he was abusing her. Ash however, isn’t buying it and tells her to stop making excuses for him. He’s worried about Kat – she’d better be sure Dylan has changed. Kat is left to question her convictions.
Meanwhile, Kyle and Isla are enjoying each other’s company. Isla asks Kyle to write a song for her on the spot, and he busts out a romantic melody. Clearly these two are growing closer than ever. Later, Andy walks in on a romantic moment between Kyle and Isla before an embarrassed Isla leaves. Instead of jumping on the anti-Isla bandwagon, he teases Kyle then tells him sincerely to go for it.
Matt returns from the police station with the news he’s been charged with assault. Despondent, he is reluctant to pursue his apprenticeship trial. Leah, Maddy and Evelyn encourage him to do it anyway, saying that Andy and Ash will understand. On his way to the garage, Matt is stopped abruptly by Dylan driving his car who taunts Matt further, suggesting his assault charge only proves his short fuse. Arriving at the garage, Matt discloses to Andy about the assault charge. Andy decides to test him out by giving him only an hour to figure out why a car is not starting.
Kat stops in to see Dylan at his hotel room. She tells him that although she had some of the best times of her life with him she also had some of the worst and she can’t easily forget. She can’t promise that she will reignite their relationship but she’s not ruling it out either. Dylan is happy with that and agrees to be patient.
Matt passes his test when he not only finds the problem with the car but also fixes it. Ash and Andy give him the job! Back at home Ash reports the days events to Kyle including Matt’s new apprenticeship. Isla works away in the kitchen before Ash coyly asks what she is cooking them all for dinner. Kyle playfully boots him out to make time just for him and Isla. But their romantic bubble is burst when Isla receives an email from Harry’s lawyer. Harry plans on moving interstate and does not want her to have any contact with her children. Kyle offers to get Isla a lawyer to fight it however Isla thinks it’s hopeless. Kyle won’t take no for an answer; he’ll give her everything he owns if that’s what it takes. Isla tries to tell him it won’t be enough to convince the courts but he won’t listen. Instead she goes for a walk to clear her head.
Matt turns up for his first full day of work armed with coffee- only to see a sullen Ash and Andy surveilling the fact their workshop has been trashed. Matt feels guilty, thinking that the attack on the workshop must be related to him. Andy and Ash think that’s unlikely but Matt is not convinced. He offers to help them clean up, but then he’s done – he can’t take the apprenticeship.
Dylan is having a guarded phone call with a stranger back at the police station. He enquires about the damage at the garage and insists it not be linked back to him. He tells the person on the other end that he may have some more work coming their way. It is clear Dylan arranged for the place to be trashed. Meanwhile Kat is at the diner on her laptop, reminiscing over some old photos of her and Dylan. She’s still unsure about her future.
Isla returns from her walk and says she feels much better – she’s called a lawyer. Kyle’s pleased, and suggests he can get her some shifts at Angelo’s if she wishes. Isla agrees to think about it and says she’s got some of her own ideas to help her case, but she won’t share just yet. Kyle then heads out for work, leaving Isla alone. Isla, looking anxious, goes to her handbag and pulls out a gun…
