Extended Summary
Kat and Dylan talk about Zac’s recent release from prison. It’s clear Dylan is playing the game with his smooth approach to Kat. He tells her he respects her decision to have no further relationship with him, much to Kat’s surprise.
Alf asks the household for help with the fundraiser Chris is organizing for Hannah. Leah however, has other plans and asks Zac to spend the day with her. He refuses, saying he doesn’t want any special treatment, leaving Leah still at a loss to know how to reach out to him.
Roo finds Matt outside the bait shop and asks him about his study. He’s evasive and finally breaks the news to her that he has dropped out of his engineering course at university. He tries to justify his decision but Roo fights back trying to make him reconsider. Roo later approaches Maddy about Matt’s news and Maddy admits that she already knew. Roo pushes her to put some pressure on Matt to change his mind but Maddy isn’t sure.
Back at the police station, it’s business as usual with Dylan and Kat as they are inundated with paperwork. Kat goes to the diner to pick up their lunch order and receives a frosty reception from Leah, who has it out with her over Zac being gaoled after their haphazard investigation. Leah is unforgiving and tells Kat to take her lunch order and go. Kat tells Dylan about the run in.
VJ playfully grabs an emotionally withdrawn Zac and he winces. VJ and Leah know something is physically wrong with him, but when pressed for answers he is evasive. Retreating to the bedroom, Zac tries to hide the source of his pain much to Leah’s dissatisfaction. Leah finally gets Zac to open up, revealing that he was caught up in a prison fight and injured. This new level of honesty brings them together in a passionate kiss before they move towards the bed. Later they lie together and Leah opens up to to Zac about the hardships endured while he was away, including the town’s speculation of his guilt and vandalism of their house.
Maddy approaches Matt about his decision to leave university. Matt defends himself and his decision that uni is not for him. Maddy asks him to consider his future and his chances of ever owning a house and a car if he is only working a dead end job in a bar – Matt rebukes her calling her a snob. Later, Matt has a cryptic conversation on his phone, revealing there is more going in his life than he is letting on.
After Dylan works into the night to help Kat finish off the copious amounts of paperwork, she finally gives in and kisses him. When he pulls back and asks if she’s sure, she replies by pulling in back into a passionate kiss, and soon they’re pulling each others’ clothes off. Afterwards, she tells him no one can find out and if it becomes a problem he has to promise to take her off the Charlotte King investigation.
Back at the diner, Maddy apologises to Matt for before, but he is clearly distracted. When he won’t apologise back she pushes him for answers and he opens up, telling her something big has emerged – there is a sex tape circulating of him and Charlotte that she had allegedly sold to a website and a journalist wants to do a story on it. Maddy tries to reassure him that everything will be okay but Matt is scared.
Back at the police station, Kat and Dylan become aware of the sex tape scandal after one of Dylan’s journalist friends sends him the story, already published by the Coastal News. As Maddy and Matt try to come to terms with why Charlotte would have sold the sex tape they are approached by a rather serious looking Kat and Dylan – they demand that Matt come in for more questioning about Charlotte’s murder.
