Extended Summary

Scandal surrounding Zac’s arrest is turning some Summer Bay residents against Leah and her family. Business is suffering at the diner and caravan park, but it’s the heartless vandalism of Alf’s house that has hurt the most. After Kat examines the crime scene, the family gets to work cleaning up the mess. A guilt-ridden Leah suggests to Alf that it might be best if she and the family move out, but he’s adamant that is not even an option. He kindly reassures her that they’ll get through this together.

Kat arrives home to find Ash, Andy and Phoebe celebrating after obtaining their licence for the workshop. She tells them she’s in, she will invest in the business after reading over their plans. But just when they think it’s all systems go, they discover Alf never actually agreed to let them set up shop at the caravan park. Their grand plans seem sunk, but then Alf comes to the rescue with a potential new venue. Despite a rocky first impression, the trio realise this new space could actually work, and the workshop is soon back on track.

Meanwhile, Morag has returned with more bad news for Leah and her family – Zac’s bail appeal was rejected, and he’s refusing to see visitors. The family is devastated, but Morag promises to do whatever it takes to prove his innocence. Nevertheless, the setbacks are enough to push Hunter over the edge. Olivia finds him lashing out, and blaming himself for the troubles besetting Leah’s family. He wants to run away, but Olivia talks him down and convinces him to stay – for Leah’s sake, but also her own.

Evelyn, Oscar, Hunter and VJ want to do more to support Leah, so enlist Irene’s help to make a lavish Greek feast. But the event is soured when a journalist betrays Leah’s trust and launches a scathing online attack on Zac, which further galvanises the town’s discontent. Alf receives a call from Roo who’s holding a crowd of protestors at bay in the caravan park. Alf and the others go straight there and he lets them have it with both barrels, but also calls for tolerance in the midst of the mob mentality gripping the town. As the protestors disperse with tails between legs, there’s a sense that the town may now give Zac and his family the fair go they deserve.

The Greek feast resumes, lifting spirits a little. Skye opens up to Olivia about her heartbreak – she’s convinced Oscar will never like her the way she likes him. Olivia tries to reassure her that other guys will be queuing up for a date, but Skye still only has eyes for Oscar.

Meanwhile, Kat is puzzled by Dylan’s downcast mood. At first seems it’s because he missed out on a promotion, but he reveals today would have been his son Anton’s 5th birthday. Kat can’t help empathising, due to the recent loss of her brother, and tries to lift his spirits and ease his workload. Morag witnesses their interaction and suspects they may be romantically involved. Despite a veiled warning from Morag, Kat stays back at work to help Dylan. He uses his grief to erode her defences, then reminisces about the good old days. Despite herself, Kat is soon laughing along, enjoying the nostalgia, then the moment becomes charged… like they might actually kiss… Kat manages to catch herself in time and retreat, but is clearly overwhelmed by powerful feelings surging within. Could she be falling under Dylan’s spell all over again?
