Zac is denied bail as Leah momentarily doubts his innocence. Ricky and Nate’s wires are crossed as to why he’s taking multiple shifts at work.

Extended Summary

Trying to keep themselves busy, VJ and Hunter are making dinner as they await Leah’s return with Zac, but VJ quickly comes to realise that Hunter is punishing himself over Zac’s fate. VJ urges Hunter to give himself a break. No-one blames him and the best way to weather their current troubles is as a family. However, no sooner has VJ managed to ease Hunter’s mind than Oscar and Evelyn arrive home and they’re shocked to learn Zac has been arrested.

As news of Zac being formally charged is revealed Leah despairs, pleading with Kat to reconsider as Alf tries to comfort her. For her part, Morag is incensed at Dylan’s eagerness to charge Zac. Accusing him of using Zac as a way back into his father’s good graces, she shines a light on Dylan’s chequered past – an exchange that leaves him rattled.

Over at the share flat, Ricky arrives home off the back of Phoebe’s advice, determined to tackle Nate on his working patterns. However, she is barely in the door when he announces that he’s accepted another shift and promptly exits for the hospital, leaving her bereft.

Arriving home from the Police Station, Alf, Morag and Leah are greeted by a group of anxious kids. Despite their best efforts at distraction, they’re forced to fill the kids in on Zac’s dilemma. Overwhelmed, Hunter flees and when Alf goes after him the young man’s emotional dam breaks.

Re-enthused about their new business venture, Andy and Ash set about marshalling the assets they will need to pull off their plans. To that end, they entreat Phoebe to approach Kat to check on the status of the money she promised to invest. However, Phoebe begs off, determined not to compromise their friendship.

Back at the Summer Bay house as everyone frets over the bail hearing Zac faces tomorrow, Leah is guilt-ridden to confess to Alf that she has real questions over Zac’s innocence. Why did he lie to her? Does he really have something to hide? Refusing to believe that, Alf counsel’s her to back her new husband. Something Kat is instinctively leaning towards as she raises questions of her own about Dylan.

With the dawning of a new day, Andy and Ash’s business gets a much-needed boost as Andy crosses with Kat and she seems to confirm her intention to invest. And more than that, Alf appears to be supportive of their desire to use the spare block of land at the caravan park. But the boys look ready to fall at the last hurdle as they discover their mutual criminal pasts preclude them from holding the motor vehicle repair licence required for them to be able to open their doors. A problem that evaporates as they hit on the idea of having Phoebe take out the license instead. Phoebe is a little wary of the fine print but eventually agrees to be the business’s figurehead.

This comes off the back of Phoebe’s intervention with Nate on Ricky’s behalf. Treading carefully, she advises Nate that the old way of managing his life won’t work if he genuinely wants to make Ricky happy. The question is, what will Nate do with this challenge? Nate offers Ricky an abject apology, explaining that far from avoiding their new life, he is hard at work saving for a deposit for their first home, keen to provide safety and security in the long term for their little family. Let in on his mindset, Ricky’s fears are allayed and they’re happily reunited.

A fate that hangs in the balance for Zac and Leah as his bail hearing goes ahead. But as Morag rips apart the Prosecution’s case, his freedom looks assured. This is why it comes as such a shock when the Judge denies bail and remands him to custody. Leah erupts; asking Morag why is this happening?! As Zac is lead away in cuffs, he shouts to a shaken Leah that he loves her…
