Extended Summary

Kyle is looking for someone to take over the rent for the flat, now that Ricky and Nate have moved into the Palmer’s House. Ash suggests himself, to which Phoebe is surprised. Kat & Dylan then turn up to take Kyle to the station. They ask him about the phone call from Charlotte on the night of her murder and Kyle doesn’t deny it, he simply didn’t think it was important. Dylan smells something fishy but Kyle insists Charlotte wanted to meet and he refused; end of story. Dylan tries to provoke Kyle, going through his past, like the time in the desert when he tried to kill his brother, Casey. It’s less than a stretch to think he was jealous after Charlotte broke up with him and maybe something happened. Kyle blurts out – he didn’t kill her! As Dylan and Kat confer outside the interview room, Kat reminds Dylan that they can’t keep him much longer without charging him. So, what’s their next move?

VJ sees Hunter at the beach and decides to have another go at him about the fire. Hunter says he can’t keep apologising, what else is he meant to do? Billie, who’s headed for a surf, sees the boys and tells VJ to cool off, the surf’s the other way! Billie and VJ chat post surf and VJ asks why Billie doesn’t hate Hunter – he set her up for the fire. Billie thinks it doesn’t help to hold onto that kind of stuff. Plus Hunter’s doing it tough at the moment. She knows what it’s like to have a town hate you and yet Summer Bay gave her a second chance when she moved back. VJ realises he’s late for basketball training and Billie decides to come watch. Meanwhile, Alf and Roo are having breakfast at the diner when they see Hunter quietly getting a coffee. They say hi, and ask how he is. He’s surprised; they’re being nice to him? Alf explains that it’s not easy what he’s going through and they believe he’s learned his lesson. Hunter mentions off the cuff that VJ doesn’t think so and Alf offers to talk to him. Hunter asks if he wouldn’t but thanks anyway.

Skye is still settling in at Irene’s place. Olivia thinks Skye is a suck up, and as they’re forced to interact Skye only perpetuates her nerdy character. Later Olivia is bemoaning to Hunter about Skye, wishing she’d just leave already. That super sweet, brainy act is so annoying. And what’s she got to be happy about? Her mum just went to the nut house. Hunter isn’t in the mood for her whinging, so says he’s going to basketball training early. Olivia heads out the back of the BBQ area while Hunter goes through the house. He sees Skye in the kitchen, who’s heard everything Olivia said. Hunter apologises on her behalf and invites Skye to come to training with him early; pass the ball around. At the court, they talk about Skye having to move around so much but Skye doesn’t mind, though it is hard when your roommate doesn’t want you there. Hunter and Skye bond over troubles with their mums and Skye gives Hunter hope. Skye’s mum did some terrible things but Skye forgave her, and she believes with time VJ, Leah and Zac will forgive him too. Soon Olivia arrives as more people gather for practice. She’s annoyed to see Skye there but grabs a seat silently. Skye awkwardly jumps to talk to the first person she knows other than Olivia and says hi to VJ when he enters with Billie. As VJ and Hunter warm up for the game, VJ throws the ball at Hunter’s head. This is just the beginning of VJ taunting and pushing Hunter during the game until the Coach sends VJ off. After the game, VJ pushes Hunter, wanting to start a fight but Skye breaks it up. Hunter, Skye and Olivia leave and VJ turns to Billie for sympathy, but she also gives him a disapproving look. Later at the diner Billie talks to a calmer VJ. She tries to help him see that Hunter is in a similar position that she was in a while ago. The whole town hated her and while she didn’t set the fire, she’s done other things she’s not proud of. VJ needs to realise that when you’re head’s in a bad place you can do horrible things that you don’t mean to. Billie thinks she might be getting through to VJ but he says he can’t forgive Hunter.

The kids come back to Irene’s from basketball. Skye is quiet and heads straight to her room. Hunter tells Olivia that Skye overheard what she said earlier. Olivia laments Skye’s perky demeanour is annoying and she doesn’t get Skye at all. Hunter tells Olivia that if she just stopped being judgy for a second, she’d see that she has heaps in common with Skye – They’ve both had tough pasts. Hunter thinks Olivia is being a jerk. Later in the evening, Olivia comes downstairs to find Skye reading alone. Olivia apologises for everything but mostly about what she said about Skye’s mum. Olivia admits that she’s had a kind of allergic reaction to Skye because she can see that they’re similar. At least by having bad things happen to them. Except Skye is too nice and Olivia admits she’s maybe cold. Skye offers the word icy? The girls giggle and there seems to be some tension lifted between them.

Ash moves his stuff into the flat with the help of Phoebe and Andy, as they discuss Kyle being hauled into the station. Ash thinks it’s just Dylan bluffing and they’ve got nothing on him. Then Phoebe enquires about a flyer she’s found amongst Ash’s stuff listing a garage for sale. Ash tells Phoebe that he wants to get back into fixing cars and has been thinking about buying this garage. Phoebe’s ecstatic and congratulates him as Andy listens, intrigued. They all sit down for lunch once the moving is done and Phoebe asks more about the garage business. Ash shares that he’s got a deposit saved up but he’ll need to go to the bank for a loan. Andy suggests it’d be easier if he had a partner. Ash agrees but where would he find one? Andy points to himself! Later in the evening, the two have talked and agreed to have an equal partnership including putting the same amount of money into it. As the boys and Phoebe toast beers to Ash and Andy’s new venture, Kat arrives next door and knocks with a few cops accompanying her. She’s here to serve a warrant to search Kyle’s place of residence. The others look worried. Back at the station Dylan and Kat return to the interview room and Kyle is livid – this is ridiculous! They can’t keep him here and he didn’t kill Charlotte! Dylan asks, then why did they find Charlotte’s phone hiding behind his fridge with Kyle’s fingerprints on it?
