Kat announces to the stunned wedding reception that Charlotte killed Denny. Hunter tells Olivia he has done something bad and is going to leave town. Late at night, Charlotte is gunned down by a mysterious assailant, leaving everybody in Summer Bay a suspect.
Extended Summary
Phoebe talks to Kyle, telling him what happened at the wedding and asks him to play some music with her to try and brighten Leah and Zac’s day a little. Kyle agrees but says he needs to do something first. He goes straight home and tells Andy and Josh about Charlotte’s threats, and Andy tells them that Charlotte knows that he killed Jake Pirovic. They need to find her.
Ricky and Nate arrive at the wedding reception and John gets a call but no-one’s there.
Irene apologises to Chris for hitting him, thinking she’s the reason for his subdued demeanour but he tells her that it’s not her, that he and Hannah broke up. Irene draws Chris into a hug.
Phoebe’s waiting for Kyle to start the music then decides to just get on without him, and Leah and Zac have their first dance. VJ cryptically tells them it’s nearly time for Chris’s bridesman surprise. As the others join in dancing , Matt and Maddy exchange loaded glances, still keeping away from each other. VJ asks to dance with his mum and Zac steps aside. Nate and Ricky dance, looking into each others eyes, truly happy. Nate stops and decides he doesn’t want to wait, and proposes. Ricky says yes. And then there are fireworks! But Chris isn’t there to see everyone’s reaction to his surprise. Andy finds Hannah and asks whether she’s seen Charlotte. Hannah tells him Chris broke up with her but Andy doesn’t have time to listen. Away from everyone else Matt and Maddy tell each other they really wanted to dance earlier and then they kiss. Nate gives Ricky his grandmother’s engagement ring but they decide not to tell anyone, not wanting to steal Leah and Zac’s thunder. Moments later Ricky tells Ash, then Phoebe and Zac and suddenly everyone’s toasting their engagement! The congratulations have hardly been said when Kat arrives with some other police officers and asks Hunter if he knows where Charlotte is. He doesn’t, and she breaks the news that Charlotte is probably Denny’s killer…
Inside the house the family try to come to terms with the new shocking news. Evie paces around trying to understand why Charlotte did it. Zac tries to follow her as she walks out to find Oscar but Alf stops him, telling Zac to let her go.
Kyle finds Oscar outside the surf club losing it, throwing things and yelling into the night. Oscar tells Kyle that he’s never hated anyone so much that he wished them dead…
Ash tells Phoebe that he has to find Charlotte, that they have to keep Brax’s secret so that Ricky can move on and be happy as Brax intended. Ash says he should have strangled Charlotte when he had the chance…
At Angelo’s Evie talks it over with Andy and as she breaks down he puts a comforting arm around her. Evie looks at him and then kisses him. As he responds, neither of them notice Hannah behind them and she walks away, stunned. After a moment Evie pulls back then runs away, leaving Andy kicking himself.
At home Olivia has told Irene the horrible news and Irene says Charlotte has ruined so many lives, she deserves more than gaol. Irene goes for a walk, refusing Olivia’s offer to go too, telling her that she wants to be alone. As she walks out Irene passes Hunter, who’s come to say goodbye to Olivia – he’s leaving the bay. He tells Olivia that he did something bad, and that no-one will want to know him when they find out. Olivia tries to stop him but he’s determind to hitch hike out of town.
An upset and angry Zac tells Leah he would have killed Charlotte himself when she turned up if he’d known what she’d do. As Leah tries to calm him he just leaves, saying he has to go and find Evie and Oscar.
Standing by the ocean pool in the darkness Charlotte turns and is surprised to see someone. Moments later there’s a gunshot and her body falls into the water…
Olivia walks along a dark road, trying to call Hunter again and then spots him up ahead. She runs to him, saying it’s them against the world but he turns from her and gets into a car which has stopped to offer him a ride.
We see Evie on the beach, Irene walking, Kyle sitting alone, Andy urgently returning home and scrubbing at his hands and face, Zac coming home to Leah and telling her that Charlotte is out of their lives now. What have they been doing?
And Charlotte drifts, underwater, lifeless eyes open…
