Extended Summary

Chris has re-organised lunch for Hannah, trying to get their relationship back on track but Andy calls, letting her know that Josh has woken up and Hannah rushes off to the hospital, leaving Chris with the untouched food. Andy thanks Hannah for coming in and checks that she sorted things with Chris. She tells him yes and he’s glad, but Hannah looks unconvinced as he walks away. Evelyn rushes to see Josh with Hannah, warning her not to expect too much. After doing more tests, Dr Griffin and Hannah explain to Andy and Evelyn that Josh is still in a vegetative state, and that all they can do is wait and see if he makes more progress. Hannah tries to reassure Andy, as he wonders if he kept Josh alive only to live life in a state of semi-consciousness. Evelyn is just around the corner and is upset by their conversation. Evelyn sits with Josh, trying to talk him out of the state he’s suspended in. When Andy and Hannah enter she’s angry with Andy, revealing that she heard him telling Hannah that they should have turned off Josh’s life support. She asks if Andy thinks Josh would be better off dead, but Andy just can’t stand seeing him how he is, and admits that he’s scared. Evelyn’s anger dissipates and she says that she is too, but they all have to work together to support Josh.

Kat looks through files, trying to connect Charlotte with Trystan Powell’s assault.

Charlotte confronts Irene after receiving an eviction notice. Olivia interrupts as things become heated, but Charlotte turns her ire on Olivia. Kyle ends up stopping Charlotte and leading her away, as she vehemently tells Irene that she’ll fight the eviction.

VJ apologises to Olivia. She gives him a hard time but then begrudgingly admits that she may have overreacted. VJ asks if she’d like to hang out the next day but after making him suggest things they could do, she tells him she’s busy, realising his romantic expectations. Back home VJ and Hunter squabble, forcing Hunter to come out with the truth – VJ ruined his chances with Olivia all by himself – and VJ can’t deny it.

That evening Kyle tries to comfort Charlotte, who just sees more problems every way she turns. Kyle persists and offers to take her to dinner but Charlotte suggests he take her to bed instead, and he’s very willing to oblige. The next morning the two say a lingering goodbye outside before Kyle heads to work. Charlotte is going to the gym and runs into Olivia. They cross swords verbally and Charlotte threatens Olivia, who’s left seething and in the mood to retaliate. She walks into the diner late for her shift, and an annoyed Irene tells her to take the garbage out. Irene and Roo continue to quiz Chris, who’s been updated by Hannah about Josh’s condition, as Olivia goes to take out the smelly rubbish. Olivia winces and as she tries to lift the rubbish bag, she spots the spare key to Charlotte’s apartment hanging on a hook, and gets an idea…

In the hospital, Hannah is checking Josh’s responses as Andy and Evelyn watch. There’s nothing until Hannah tries a sternal rub which shows that Josh is responding to pain, which Hannah reassures Andy and Evelyn is progress. Hannah tells Evelyn that she’s going to take her home and when Evelyn objects, Andy reminds her that they said they wouldn’t push themselves, and that she can come back later when he will have a break. Andy’s left alone with Josh and tells him that he’s not going anywhere, desperate for a sign, but getting nothing. As he sits back to wait, he doesn’t see as a single tear slip from Josh’s eye.

VJ goes to see Olivia and asks to speak to her, leaving Irene in the kitchen. VJ tells Olivia that he gets it, nothing’s going to happen between them and he wants to be mates. Olivia teases him for a moment, telling him that depends on how much he compliments her on the sandwich she’s going to make him. They smile at each other, hopeful for a good friendship. Meanwhile Irene has answered the door to find Kat asking to see Olivia in relation to Charlotte’s apartment being vandalised…
