Leah is struggling with being home. John has an idea to celebrate Anzac Day. Evie tries to help Matt, but he crosses a line.
Extended Summary
Leah returns home with Zac & VJ. She seems a bit out of it and VJ’s worried. They all venture out the next morning and the whole Bay is thrilled to see Leah up & about. While having breakfast at the diner, Leah finds she can’t take the noise – it’s too much. She’s finding it hard to readjust to being home.
John gets a letter from his old Navy mates inviting him to a reunion for the 100th anniversary of Anzac Day. The reunion is in Adelaide though and he tells Marilyn that they can’t afford it. Jett asks John why they haven’t got an annual Anzac Day ceremony in Summer Bay, which gets Marilyn thinking. After doing some research, Marilyn suggests to John that maybe he should set up a service or something in Summer Bay. It sends John on a mission to build a War Memorial for this year’s Anzac Day. John approaches Alf for some help and he’s more than happy to oblige.
Matt is still moody but Evie won’t give up on him. She’s going to stick by his side all day until he gets out of his funk. When Matt leaves the Diner to avoid seeing Leah, Zac questions where has he been? Matt gets defensive again so Zac threatens to throw Matt out of the house, unless he cleans himself up and stops drinking. Evie slowly starts convincing Matt that it’s time to stop pushing everyone who cares about him away. Matt lies and tells Evie he’s going to turn things around – only for Evie to find he was sneaking back home to drink by himself. He’s drowning in his own sorrow over losing Sasha. Evie tells Matt again that she’s not leaving him alone, he can’t push her away. So Matt kisses her – what is he doing? Evie’s furious he would do such a thing especially when he knows she has a boyfriend. Evie storms out to leave Matt alone once more.
