Maddy finally decides it’s time to return to Summer Bay. Irene is terrified of losing Leah. In the wake of the catastrophic news about Leah, the community gathers to support Zac and VJ.
Extended Summary
Maddy and Oscar hang out in a hotel room in the city. Maddy’s enjoying their adventure, and she suggest to Oscar that they should sneak into a bar somewhere. Thinking about Maddy’s health, Oscar counsels against it. The next day, Maddy starts talking about how they could go hot air ballooning. Oscar finally charges his phone and receives a flurry of messages from Evelyn, wondering why he hasn’t returned home yet. Oscar tells Maddy that she’s acting like she’s already given up. He explains that he has to go back to Summer Bay – Hannah might never walk again and his family needs him. As Oscar waits for the bus home, Maddy appears. She tells him she wants to return home with him too.
Sasha is ecstatic that she got into Redside College, her first university preference. She asks Matt when he’s going to check his own results. Once again, he doesn’t tell her that he didn’t receive any offers. The next morning, Sasha asks Matt about university again. He explodes at her, finally telling her that he didn’t get a single offer. Sasha comes back to hi, and tries to get through to him, explaining that he might get a second-round offer. Matt explains to Sasha that he feels like he has let Leah down by not getting into university. She tells him that Leah wouldn’t want him sitting around feeling sorry for himself.
Sasha finds a sombre Irene, Roo and Alf in the Diner, still trying to process the fact that Leah will never wake from her coma. Sasha offers to close up the Diner for Irene. When she gets home, she finds Irene sitting on the stairs, terrified of losing her best friend. Zac and VJ are also overcome with grief. VJ tells Zac that they should think about moving to the city to be closer to Leah. When Zac mentions that it might not be practical, VJ blows up at him. To try to help Zac and VJ, Irene, Roo and Alf draw up a roster – they’ll take turns driving VJ into the city to see his mum. VJ apologises to Zac for giving him a hard time, and the two prepare to leave for the city. They hug their friends goodbye, overwhelmed by the support they are receiving.
