Extended Summary

A tense conversation between Jazz and Jules reveals the secret Jazz is holding over him – Jules used to have a crush of Jazz and even tried to crawl into her bed while on a family skiing trip with Drew. Jules is mortified at the memory, and in no doubt that if Drew knew the truth their friendship would be over. He’s in an impossible position, and has to do a lot of fast talking to apologise for not letting Drew crash at the van last night. Drew grudgingly accepts his apology but there are serious tensions simmering between these best mates. Jules is increasingly agitated – deceiving his best mate is a dangerous game. And he’s got a sinking feeling that Jazz is only just getting warmed up…

Meanwhile, it’s Cassie’s eighteenth birthday and she’s moved by the beautiful necklace Sally gives her. All the signs are there for a great day, finishing up with a party tonight that everyone’s happily rushing to organise in time. Things are also heating up between Cassie and Jules – until Cassie visits Jules’s van and is confronted by Jazz. Realising that his relationship with Cassie is the reason why Jules won’t leave town, Jazz spins a story to Cassie about Jules being obsessed with her.

Cassie is stunned, and doesn’t know what to believe. She confronts Jules, who’s awkward – which only seems to confirm Jazz’s story. For poor Cassie it feels like history’s repeating – that she’s again chosen the wrong man – and she’s devastated. Rushing home, she enters the kitchen and into the party preparations she is in tears leaving everyone shocked, what just happened to Cassie?

Meanwhile, a grim Drew has learnt the truth and goes straight to Jules’s van to have it out with him. He discovers Jules about to run away back to the city and tempers spill, ending with Drew punching Jules out. A devastated Jules tries to apologise – but it’s too late. He picks up his bags and leaves town for good – clearly this friendship is over forever.

Meanwhile Sally is frustrated that Brad alerted the Education Department to Annie Campbell’s case. She believes that she might have been able to persuade Bruce Campbell to let both Annie and Geoff come back to school, but she has no doubt that the involvement of the Department will only make Bruce more wary and even hostile. Brad’s down on himself for making a difficult situation worse – and he’s determined to find a solution to help these kids. But it seems Sally’s not interested in accepting his help.

Leah and Dan are surprised when Drew decides to move back in – but he makes it clear that he doesn’t want anything to do with Jazz. Tired of the tension in the house, Dan and Leah try to talk to Jazz about her moving out, but she doesn’t take the hint, leaving them more frustrated than ever. Dan, however, is even more surprised – and deeply uncomfortable – when Jazz starts flirting with him!
