Extended Summary
It’s the day of Josh’s sentencing hearing and Kat tells Ash that the crown are going to try and make the murder charge stick. Manslaughter is unlikely – Josh has motive, and didn’t come forward for ages. Ash takes this heavy news in while at the garage, Matt notices Andy packing a car. Andy dismisses it but Matt’s suspicions are already raised, claiming that Andy’s been acting odd for days now. Andy claims that nothing is going on… but soon he’s meeting up with a stranger – Beau –and hands over an envelope of cash.
Later at the courthouse, Evelyn, Matt and Ash arrive for the sentencing. Andy is notably absent, which further raises an alarm for Matt. Kat appears, followed by Beau, now dressed in police uniform – he Josh into the courthouse… The hearing gets underway and soon the judge is handing down his sentence to an anxious Josh… who, for the manslaughter of Charlotte King, receives a minimum prison sentence of twenty years. Evelyn is beside herself and the others, shocked by the penalty awaiting Josh. Josh is lead out by Beau who gives him his signal to act. Josh elbows Beau hard and knocks him to the ground, before taking off for the exit. It all happens so fast that Kat barely has time to process as Andy skids to a stop in a getaway car. Josh bolts into the car and the brothers power away. Kat jumps ion her car and tears off after them. Evelyn reels, blaming Ash, but he had nothing to do with it. They all reel at this shocking turn of events.
Matt later admits to Evelyn that he doesn’t blame Josh and Andy for escaping – getting charged that much for accidentally killing a horrible woman seems unfair. And he’s not sure he blames Andy for switching off the life support of a convicted killer. This however does not go down well with Evelyn at all, believing Andy deserves punishment for what he did to Hannah and Oscar. She can’t believe they’d be so stupid.
When they get far enough out of the Bay, they pull up on the side of the road and Andy instructs Josh to get changed as they switch cars. Despite the rush, Josh stops, sending a quick text Evelyn, it’s going to be the last thing he ever says to her …. Josh wonders if Andy has any regrets. But Andy’s sure. Andy fires up the engine, and they drive out of the Bay forever. On the beach, still in shock, Evelyn receives Josh’s text and breaks down sobbing.
That night, Matt finds a lost and pensive Evelyn at home. He apologises for earlier. She admits that to be honest she doesn’t really care about Andy. It’s what Josh has done that really hurts. Matt reads the text, and tells her they’ll see Josh again, in Spain or somewhere – and he’ll punch him square in the face for doing this to her. Evelyn appreciates that but it doesn’t take the hurt away for Evelyn who is feeling like everyone she loves seems to disappear. Matt assures her that Zac, Leah and him aren’t going anywhere. Evelyn breaks down, obviously in a bad place at the moment.
Elsewhere, Tori asks Justin if he thinks they may have been compromised by Mason telling his girlfriend about their witness protection, but he reassures her. One slip up won’t ruin everything. On her way to Tori crosses with Nate outside the surf club, who has finished up at the gym and is exchanging some friendly banter with Spike, the guy he met previously at the gym. Tori almost recognises Spike, but she shoves the feeling aside as her and Nate head into work together. At the hospital, Tori witnesses Nurse Gretchen flirting with Nate and she finds herself, despite her best intentions, growing a little jealous.
But Tori’s soon shaken when Nurse Gretchen accidentally runs into her with a trolley. Leaving a bloody cut on her forehead. Nate takes Tori aside to patch her up. She teases, asking if he’s going to “go there” with Nurse Gretchen, he fires back, jokingly asking if she’s jealous. At home and with her private feelings for Nate growing, Tori wonders aloud to Justin whether they should allow themselves the freedom of enjoying life in the Bay for a while. But Justin is still wary of them being in witness protection. Tori tries arguing against his wariness, but Justin thinks they can’t get too comfortable. Justin goes for an afternoon surf, watched by Spike, as he makes a suspicious phone call.
Later that night at the hospital, Nate is heading alone when he stops to look at a chart. Nearby, a masked surgeon appears and pads towards Nate… producing a syringe in his hand. He jabs Nate with the syringe and Nate falls to the floor unconscious. The man takes off his mask, to reveal that it’s Spike.
