Monday's New Idea magazine will reveal "exclusively" that Home And Away actress Bec Cartwright is 3 months pregnant to fiance, Lleyton Hewitt

Show Biz reporter Peter Ford has revealed the news while appearing on Southern Cross network stations 3AW and 4BC

The release of the news is said to have been timed so that it coincides with Mothers' Day.

The couple met in December and announced their engagement in January.

C'mon! A bouncing baby due for Lleyton

The Australian

7 May 2005

WHEN Bec Cartwright attended the Logies last weekend in a free-flowing designer dress and shunned champagne for orange juice, everyone thought she was just being healthy.

But in fact the 21-year-old Home and Away star is three months' pregnant to her fiance, tennis champion Lleyton Hewitt.

Whether the baby was conceived amid their engagement and post-Australian Open celebrations just over three months ago is unknown, but the maternity news is the latest scoop in the headline-grabbing whirlwind that has become the Bec and Lleyton show.

The pair began dating late last year after meeting at a charity tennis match five years ago.

When Cartwright publicly supported Hewitt through his Australian Open campaign, he proposed with a $200,000 Tiffany engagement ring in the early hours of the morning, after losing the final on January 31.

The pair have since bought a house at Sydney's exclusive Palm Beach and told their love story on the Seven Network -- which recently signed Hewitt -- and to New Idea magazine, which will run the pregnancy story in full next week. The magazine's cover screams: "I'm Having A Baby! Lleyton's joy at Bec's pregnancy surprise."

Earlier this year Cartwright said of their romance: "What feels right to you, you don't second-guess yourself ... For us, it just felt so awesome right from the start."

But when asked in February whether she was ready to start a family, Cartwright was unsure.

It's not known how long the Seven Network has known about its star's baby news. But in a case of life imitating art, recent episodes of Home and Away (which would have been filmed about two months ago), have Cartwright's character Hayley Smith finding out she is pregnant.

The couple first met at a Starlight Foundation charity tennis day in 1999 but only became close late last year after Hewitt's split with Belgian tennis star Kim Clijsters and Cartwright's with fellow actor Beau Brady.

Last weekend the pair were the toast of the Logies, when Cartwright was named most popular actress, capping an incredible 12 months.

Baby before wedding for our Lleyton and Bec / Lleyton and Bec serve up a baby

The Advertiser / Herald Sun

7 May 2005

BEC Cartwright and fiance Lleyton Hewitt are expecting their first child, due in October.

Hewitt's father Glynn Hewitt confirmed the pregnancy last night.

"We can confirm the news," he said. "We are tremendously excited and happy about it."

The couple announced their engagement on February 1 this year, the day after Hewitt lost the final of the Australian Open to Marat Safin. They had been together for seven weeks.

More recently, the couple bought a $4.5 million mansion in Sydney's Palm Beach.

Sources close to Cartwright said a wedding is expected in December, after the baby was born.

Before the couple got together, Cartwright was engaged to former Home and Away actor Beau Brady.

At last Sunday night's Logies, Hewitt did not leave Cartwright's side all night, and she did not pick up a drink, fuelling the rumours.

"I'm not drinking, I've been too busy," she said at the telecast.

Cartwright wore a flowing Lisa Ho creation compared to her usual figure-hugging outfits that she has become known for at past Logies.

Accompanied by both couple's parents at the Channel 7 after-party at Pure South in Southbank, Hewitt once again did not leave his fiance's side.

At the party Cartwright also did not drink and the couple left early, Cartwright not socialising with her Home and Away cast mates.

Hewitt has been by Cartwright's side the past two months recovering from a foot injury as she continues her punishing schedule on the set of Home and Away in Sydney, where sources say she has been suffering morning sickness on the set during her early morning shoots.

Cartwright has been granted leave in June to head to London to watch Hewitt at Wimbledon.

After that the couple are scheduled to make a trip to the couple's planned orphanage for children affected by HIV/AIDS in northern Cambodia.

Cartwright was due to return to the set of Dancing With The Stars for a special showdown with this year's winner, Tom Williams, but pulled out at the last minute.

Sources told the Herald Sun her Home and Away contract is up for renewal at the end of the year and she is not likely to continue on the show.

One source said Cartwright was the kind of girl who would give up her career for the time being for a strong and stable family life.

The couple are expected to make an appearance at a charity ball in Sydney tonight.

Baby for Bec and Lleyton

May 6, 2005 - 7:02PM

AAP News Wire

Home and Away star Bec Cartwright and her tennis champion fiance Lleyton Hewitt are expecting a baby.

"Their respective families are delighted with the wonderful news," Cartwright's publicist Amanda Fry said in a statement.

Hewitt's manager Rob Aivatoglou also confirmed the 21-year-old's pregnancy.

Earlier, sources close to the star couple said the actress was three months' pregnant.

The news will be featured in the next edition of New Idea, which will carry an interview with the pair.

The celebrity duo became engaged in late January, only six weeks after they began dating and on the night of Hewitt's loss in the final of the Australian Open.

They made their first major public appearance together at the TV Week Logies awards in Melbourne last Sunday night, when Cartwright picked up her first Logie, for most popular actress.

A happy-looking Cartwright wore a long, colourful backless dress as she and Hewitt embraced on the way into the awards ceremony.

Cartwright's character on Seven's Home and Away, Hayley, is also pregnant.

They have yet to set a date for their wedding.

"Within the next couple of years I think," Hewitt, 23, said earlier this year, when asked about the impending nuptials.

Cartwright said despite criticism of her becoming engaged so soon, she knew it was right.

"What feels right to you, you don't second guess yourself," she said earlier this year.

"For us, it just felt so awesome right from the start."

The news caps off a big year for Cartwright, who since becoming engaged has bought a house with Hewitt on Sydney's northern beaches.

As well as winning a Logie last weekend, the blonde beauty was nominated for the gold Logie for most popular TV personality.

She also won last year's season of Dancing With the Stars, donating her money from the show to the AIDS Trust of Australia and announcing plans to build an orphanage with Hewitt in Cambodia.

Besides this she recently topped FHM magazine's poll to select the 100 Sexiest Women for 2005.

Hewitt recently filmed a cameo role for Home and Away, which will be screened in June.

Bec's baby bump

The Sunday Telegraph

May 08, 2005

MOTHER-to-be Bec Cartwright showed off her baby bump yesterday during an afternoon shopping trip on Sydney's northern beaches.

Dressed in tummy-revealing, hipster-style track pants and a basic T-shirt, the soapie star clearly wasn't shy about impending motherhood as she strolled through Avalon with fiance Lleyton Hewitt.

She and Hewitt exchanged kisses and hugs as they walked through Avalon's Barefoot Boulevard, stopping to chat with locals.

The couple, who announced last week they are expecting their first child, bought groceries at Woolworths then stopped to purchase a takeaway roast chicken before heading back to their new $4.5 million Palm Beach mansion.

The couple are yet to set a date for their wedding, but confirmed on Friday that Bec is three months pregnant.

They had been together for seven weeks before announcing their engagement in January, the night Hewitt lost his Australian Open final against Roger Federer.

Hewitt's father Glynn confirmed the couple were expecting their first child.

"We are tremendously excited and happy about it," Mr Hewitt said.

Last week, Cartwright won a Silver Logie for most popular actress and was nominated for the Gold Logie for most popular television personality.
