I know Gwen played the part written for her of Mum Foote on Richmond Hill which is why we didn’t see her appear as Doris during Season One. I wonder why Gwen didn’t resurrect the role once Richmond Hill finished. The character of Doris was always being mentioned. I assume Celia was a Doris replacement, since she neither appeared or was mentioned in the pilot and they were both busybody characters. Celia was the one that did not give up on Roo and fought long and hard to get Roo and Alf talking again .
