It would have been good if the shaft had caved in and buried the Sutherlands alive, leading to their painful death, hopefully with Kirsty and Max suffering the most. There were so many of them the michael and martha in the mineshaft wasn't about a disaster!! not like the cyclones/mudslides, etc. so we can't compare! their one was jst the only way that the writers could think of to get that stubborn martha to listen to michael - as we all know, it's the only way she would give him five minutes of her time!
