KIDS' DAY OUT

Herald Sun (Melbourne, Australia)

November 6, 2007

DRESSING up for the races isn't just for grown-ups. At Flemington on Saturday - Emirates Stakes Day - hundreds of junior racegoers aged from six to 17 will put on their favourite finery to parade before Field judges.

Jordan Butler, 13, and Caitie Barrow, 12, (above) won last year's intermediate section.

"I like dressing up. It's fun," Caitie says.

Caitie puts her outfits together with the help of mum Debi.

"It's mainly me, but Mum gets to say yes or no."

The competition's focus is "fun and fashionable racewear". Doris Reymond, Elodie & Elvis children's wear founder and designer, says she and fellow judges - including Home and Away stars Ada Nicodemou and Bobby Morley - will take age appropriateness into account.

"Sunday best is a good thing rather than a disco look," Reymond says.

"Be modest and stylish, and let the children's personalities come through."

Boys and girls can enter in three categories: junior (6-10 years old), intermediate (11-15) and senior (15-17).

To register, ph: 1300 727 575

I'm sure there will be other stars there also.
