I've never understood why people randomly add other members to MSN, even if they've never spoken to them before. I have a couple of contacts from BTTB on my MSN, and a couple from other message boards, but these are people I've previously spoken to by PM and already 'got to know' in a way. You wouldn't just telephone a random person from work or school, who you hardly know, and say 'Fancy a chat?', would you?
