Extended Summary

Ash and Kat drive furiously towards town, Baby Luc’s condition is not improving and they need to get her to hospital. Kat finally gets reception and calls Tori. Ash and Kat convey Luc’s symptoms to Tori and Tori tells them to meet her at the hospital asap. Having overheard the conversation, Leah worries for Luc but Tori has to leave. In the car, Kat tries to reassure Ash as they continue to speed for the hospital, but then Luc starts to shake like she’s having a fit and Kat shouts at Ash to put his foot down! Tori receives Kat, Ash and sick Baby Luc at the hospital. Kat and Ash are stressing, but Tori remains calm and orders tests. Leah arrives at the hospital just in time for Tori to explain the test results. Luc has a serious bowel issue and requires emergency surgery. When Ash asks for reassurance that Luc will be fine after surgery, Tori can’t provide it. Luc’s life is in peril. Leah goes to call VJ. Meanwhile Luc must wait for the paediatric surgeon. Later, Luc’s condition is deteriorating rapidly but the paediatric surgeon is still in surgery at another hospital. Alf arrives at the hospital and Leah asks if he’s seen VJ. Alf thinks he’s probably caught up at school. Tori receives new results and as Luc’s condition deteriorates even further, Tori decides they can’t wait for a paediatric surgeon to become available. Either Luc dies or Tori does the surgery herself. Will Luc make it?

At the beach, Jett and Marilyn argue about telling John the truth about his father. When they run into John, Marilyn explains she thinks that telling the truth will do more harm than good. Jett jumps in, it is up to John if he wants to know. John decides to leave it, he trusts their judgment. As John, Marilyn and Jett go for a walk after breakfast, John is distracted and heads off alone. Jett argues with Marilyn again, he wants to tell John what happened during his hypnosis, Marilyn does not. Jett can’t keep it from John any longer and tells Marilyn to inform John, or he will. Marilyn receives John at Palmer House, and breaks the news. John’s dad didn’t die in the fire, he was already dead. A surprisingly calm John wonders how his mother coped with the truth about his father’s death, they never talked about it. Everything makes more sense now, but he still can’t remember it all. Marilyn urges him to continue seeing a counsellor, but John’s not sure there’s a point. He reassures her that she did the right thing, telling him the truth. Marilyn tells Jett John was calm after she broke the news. Marilyn is positive but Jett’s not sure, it doesn’t sound like John to be calm. Meanwhile, alone, John has a flashback. He remembers playing with the lighter as a child. He startles and begins crying, letting out his emotions alone.

Hunter receives a very short email from Zac in Vietnam, making him feel like Zac’s not interested in being his father anymore. He tells VJ he’s not going to school. Later, VJ returns to the beach house with nachos ingredients. If Hunter’s not going to school, then neither is he. Hunter doesn’t want to hang out and departs, leaving VJ wondering how else he can help his friend. In the end, VJ persuades a reluctant Hunter to submit to a surfing lesson. Busy trying to pep up Hunter by teaching his friend to surf, VJ is unaware that Leah is trying to reach him to inform him of Luc’s hospitalisation. VJ and Hunter arrive back at the beach house, Hunter admitting the surf lesson was cool and in much better spirits. VJ and Hunter settle in to watch a movie and VJ lets Hunter know that he shouldn’t feel lost or alone, he has Leah, Olivia, Mr Stewart and VJ. Hunter thanks VJ for being there for him. And anyway, Zac was never into big emotional stuff when he was in the Bay, he can’t expect that to have changed now he’s in Vietnam. VJ asks if Hunter’s thought more about finding his real dad, but Hunter waves it off. VJ’s phone rings, but when he sees it’s Leah he ignores it, it’s just Mum.
