Extended Summary
Evelyn’s flustered and embarrassed, after kissing Matt, and is eager to make a hasty escape. Matt, however, is determined to talk about what just happened. What did the kiss mean? Evelyn insists she was just joking around and she implores Matt not to read anything into it. They’re interrupted when Matt’s date Zoe drops by. Evelyn does the bolt – leaving a frustrated Matt in need of answers. He decides to cut his date with Zoe short, and Roo immediately swoops – what’s going on there? Matt admits it’s because of what happened with Evelyn. Evelyn, meanwhile, pours her heart out to Brody, admitting she feels like a complete fool. Brody, however, wants to know what the kiss meant? And Matt’s angsting over the same thing. Roo urges him to lay his feelings for Evelyn on the line, although Matt’s not certain this is the way to go. Isn’t that putting too much pressure on her, given what she’s just been through with Josh? Roo thinks Matt needs to know once and for all where he stands… What has he got to lose? Matt ends things with Zoe, and comes clean to Evelyn about his feelings for her. He’s prepared to wait for her. Evelyn’s taken aback, admitting she’s scared of ruining their friendship. Matt is adamant that won’t happen. Evelyn, however, requires more time to think about it. Now alone, a thoughtful Evelyn takes off the “ring” Josh gave her, and untwists it, so it’s now just a piece of wire. It seems she’s finally moving forward…
Mason enjoys a moment of flirtation with Olivia, but totally blows his chance to follow through and ask her on a date. Kicking himself, he turns up at the beach house, using a free salad as his excuse for being there. Once again, however, Mason wimps out and can’t follow through on his good intentions. Meanwhile, Zac can’t get Hunter to stop brooding about Olivia. Mason finally musters up the courage to ask Olivia out … But Olivia, sensing where this is going, jumps in and begs Mason not say it… Mason’s deflated, but Olivia stresses that she’s not saying no to a date forever… Just for now, because her life is so horribly complicated. Roo’s listening on, however, and she later tackles Olivia, encouraging her to change her mind. After all, Mason’s a nice guy… And Olivia’s a lovely girl… What would be the harm in sitting down to a meal together? Having taken Roo’s advice, Mason and Olivia are enjoying each other’s company as they have lunch together. Everything’s very pleasant – and looking very promising – until the arrival of Hunter, who accuses Olivia of being easy. Zac intervenes, while Mason defends her. Olivia’s left feeling like she’s been slapped in the face… she leaves the date, and Mason thinks it’s over. But she’s gone to confront Hunter – telling him she’s on a date because it’s the only way she’ll get over him. Mason overhears and is crestfallen – realising Olivia’s still hung up on her ex.
Billie’s glad to have VJ home, although things between the young lovers get awkward when VJ comments on the marriage licence paperwork that has arrived from the celebrant. Quickly changing the subject, Billie tells VJ they have to get serious about choosing a name for the baby. The following day at the beach, they playfully argue, as Billie rejects VJ’s suggestions. VJ heads off for a swim, and Ash takes a moment to speak with his sister alone. Billie confirms that things are going well between her and VJ; it’s almost as if the wedding debacle never happened. Ash is perturbed, however, to discover that Billie will be giving her baby VJ’s surname… Surely the baby is going to be an Ashford? Billie argues her case, insisting she doesn’t want her baby saddled with all the baggage that comes along with their family name. Ash, however, is worried that VJ will up and leave Billie, and what’s the baby going to do then, when she’s saddled with his name forever? He thinks Billie is living in a fantasy world. Billie confides in VJ about Ash’s doubts, regarding their relationship. VJ’s frustrated, and impulsively asks Billie to marry him today… They can head to the registry office and make their union official straight away! Billie and VJ are on their way to the registry office in Yabbie Creek, when Billie clutches her back in pain. She begs VJ to take her to the hospital – they can’t get married, because the baby’s on her way!
