Extended Summary

Josh is brought into the station, leaving Evelyn scared what this will mean. Kat sends her home before heading in to join McCarthy to interview Josh – then pointedly remarks that Josh better start telling the whole truth. Josh isn’t giving them anything however, just demanding to know what happened with Andy’s bail hearing, until McCarthy leaves. Kat then takes a break and turns off the camera recording the interview. She implores Josh to tell them everything – including about Charlotte – before this gets worse or it comes out another way. Josh suggests Kat’s just worried about herself being exposed as covering for him. Kat gets angry, telling Josh what’s really going on with Andy – he got stabbed by Hunter for covering for Josh. Josh is shocked as Kat tells him Andy’s fine but he could’ve died. Is Josh really okay with that? Josh finally decides to confess to it all. Kat’s surprised and goes to get McCarthy but Josh begs to see Evelyn first.

Zac tries to talk round VJ about his study, reminding him that Zac & Leah are proud of him for stepping up with Billie, but this is his HSC they’re talking about. Zac tries to quiz him on his essay, but VJ gets annoyed again and leaves, refusing to accept he might really be at risk of failing. Zac then goes behind VJ’s back to Billie. He asks her to put the breaks on with them, not disappear or anything, but reduce the time they spend together so VJ can focus on what’s important. It gives Billie food for thought when she later runs into VJ. He wants to hang out but Billie is reluctant, offering his study as an excuse and VJ soon realises Zac spoke to her. Billie thinks it might be a good idea they see a little less of each other for a while but VJ, irritated, says he can handle it and she doesn’t need to tell him how to spend his time. Billie relents and they head to her place.

Chris checks in with Olivia on how Hunter’s going – he heard about Andy’s confession. Olivia updates Chris on Hunter assaulting Andy too, and the new charges against him. Olivia is getting really worried about Hunter spiralling into destruction again, which makes both her and Chris long for Irene’s advice. At the diner, Chris whips up a special pimped up version of the Chris burger to cheer her up, until Olivia gets a message from Irene’s phone – it’s a photo of a tied up and scared looking Irene, with the caption “I’ve got her”. Olivia and Chris are shaken to the core.

Evelyn runs into Ash on the way back to the station and finds out he knows Josh killed Charlotte, and was the one to alert Andy about it. When she arrives, Josh tells her his plan to confess to Charlotte’s murder. But Evelyn refuses to let him do it – if he loves her, he won’t leave her alone like this. She’s determined not to lose anyone else and she doesn’t care who it affects. Josh is left hesitant seeing what this is doing to Evelyn’s state of mind.

Meanwhile, Olivia and Chris have rushed to the station to tell Kat about Irene being kidnapped. Kat’s just as shocked but quickly goes into professional mode and asks Chris and Olivia what they know so far. Chris mentions the app he set Irene up on to find her child and Kat wants to follow it up. She promises they’ll do their best to find something – including going over her car and the house for any evidence. Chris threatens to fall apart, thinking this might be his fault, but Olivia tells him they need to keep it together, for Irene’s sake. When Kat joins McCarthy and Josh back in the interview room, she expects that he’s confessed to charlotte’s murder, but instead McCarthy reveals he’s confessed to lying about Andy’s alibi for Pirovic’s murder but nothing else. When Kat asks Josh if there’s anything else, Josh looks her dead in the eye and says no.

Back at the farm house, Billie makes a few jokes over Zac, talking sarcastically to VJ about how she hates when people care so much and want to see you do well. VJ gets the hint and Billie offers to cook them dinner if VJ does more of his essay. Enamoured with how supportive Billie is, VJ drops the L-bomb again, only to make things awkward. Billie heads off for a shower leaving VJ kicking himself. But as she’s cooking later, VJ can’t help himself and launches into a monologue about how he doesn’t want to make Billie uncomfortable and he’s totally fine if she never loves him – he’ll always be here for her and the baby. Once he finally shuts up, Billie tells him that it only made her awkward before because it made her realise she’s actually falling in love with him too. VJ’s stunned and Billie laughs – I know, right? They both tell each other how happy they are and it’s a big step for these two.

Kat crosses with Evelyn at the beach, and reveals to Evelyn that Josh didn’t confess to Charlotte’s murder – whatever Evelyn said to him worked. Evelyn’s glad but Kat promises to convince Josh to change his mind the first chance she gets – Evelyn must know this is wrong. But Evelyn can’t take losing anyone else so she threatens Kat that if she messes with this or talks to Andy or Josh, Evelyn will expose Kat for her involvement in the cover up. Kat warns Evelyn that would compromise Evelyn as an accessory too but Evelyn doesn’t care – she’s got nothing to lose but Kat does. Kat is visibly shaken at Evelyn’s resolve, shocked that she would do this. But Evelyn doesn’t falter, promising to follow through with her threat if need be. Later Ash finds Kat heading back to her car and sees she’s upset. Kat tells Ash she’s screwed up and it’s only getting worse. Ash wants her to know he’s here for her and will come whenever she needs him – even if it’s only for her to yell at him. Their conversation gets interrupted by a phone call and Kat has to rush off. She heads to the diner to talk to Chris & Olivia. All three are trying to find a lead on this website Irene was using to find her child when Olivia gets another text – this time it’s a wider shot of Irene, bound, gagged and crying. The caption says – time to say goodbye…
