Extended Summary
Toughing it out through a long, hard swim, Justin is determined to get help for Alf, who remains in serious pain on the boat. Seeing Justin run out of the surf, puffed, Phoebe soon realises something is wrong and gives Justin her phone to ring for help. She then accompanies Justin to the hospital once Alf has been rescued. There, she’s surprised to learn Justin is the brother of her new friend Tori. When Roo receives a call from Phoebe about Alf’s heart attack, she and John rush to the hospital – and (also alerted by Phoebe) Matt soon joins them, worrying about Roo’s ability to cope.
During Alf’s medical emergency, Nate and Tori are a little awkward, following Nate’s decision to stand up to the gossiping staff. Tori’s grateful but wants to avoid any overt contact with him and fly under the radar in her new town, whereas Nate is very keen to keep this new friendship in his life. She’s stressed, he’s disappointed.
After delivering Alf to the hospital with Justin, Phoebe arrives at Angelo’s very late for her shift…only to find Matt spontaneously lending a hand to the harried wait staff. Matt fills her in – the chef has walked out and things are going pear-shaped…she needs to be on top of this. Though Phoebe asks Matt to stay for the shift, he needs to get to hospital to look after Roo…so Phoebe is left with a big problem on her hands. How to run a restaurant without a chef?
By the time Brody arrives for lunch, he finds Angelo’s in a shemozzle and a frantic Phoebe scrubbing all but pizza off the menu. He questions her about the situation and, amused by the idea of her cooking pizza, he stays to see what will happen next. Naturally it’s a disaster, with Phoebe delivering a burnt pizza – and then telling him she’s closing up for the day when he calls her on the quality of food. Just when Phoebe thinks all is lost, Brody (who’s actually a chef) steps in and takes over the kitchen… By the end of the day, he’s saved her bacon and scored himself a new job. Though Justin and Brody are happy to drink a toast with Phoebe, it’s starting to feel like a romantic triangle is forming…
The Morgan family secrets threaten to spill when Mason gets an unexpected visitor… While preparing his uni books, he hears a noise – and, curiously, his first response is to grab a baseball bat to defend himself. It turns out the noise was made by Lara – a girl he left behind in the last place the Morgans lived before Summer Bay. After grilling him about his lack of contact (even though he told her he wouldn’t see her again), she then seduces him into proving how much he missed her in the bedroom. It seems the lovers couldn’t be happier until their tryst is interrupted by an angry Justin.
Full of grim warnings about how he has “compromised” their family, Justin reads Mason the riot act…but Mason defends himself, claiming to be in love with Lara – and he wants to keep seeing her. Justin waxes lyrical about being loyal to the family, but Mason pleads that Justin must know what it’s like to leave behind someone he cares about. Mason begs for Justin not to tell Tori, and Justin considers, then simply says when he gets back later Lara better be gone. Later, Justin proves he has a ruthless cunning streak when he tells Mason he is allowed to secretly see Lara away from The Bay…and then goes to Lara to tell her privately that she must stop seeing Mason – even threatening her. What is the secret the Morgan family is keeping from the world…and who are they really?
Meanwhile at the hospital, though there has been an anxious wait for news on Alf’s condition, Nate finally delivers the prognosis – Alf’s cardiologist is confident his heart is responding to treatment and he should make a full recovery. John and Matt celebrate with some takeaway from Angelo’s – where they congratulate Justin on a job well done. However, the nightmare isn’t over for Roo – as Alf takes an unexpected turn for the worse in the morning… Will he make it through this time?
