Extended Summary

Maddy struggles to save herself. Alone in the motel room, battling pain and fever, she desperately reaches for the phone, only to collapse again. Leah and Roo grapple with the idea of Maddy’s infection, when Maddy’s mother Tanya rushes into the search HQ, furious at John and Alf’s search coordinating efforts – Maddy could be dying as they speak! Roo defends their efforts, but Tanya also turns on her, accusing Roo of failing Maddy – an accusation that plays on Roo’s own guilt. Alf wastes no time in dressing down Tanya – she can continue to make this all about herself, or she can work with Roo, and be there for her daughter.

Evelyn sits alone at the beach, until Josh arrives to comfort her. Andy spots the two and is again racked with guilt for creating the situation. Andy crosses with Leah and tells her that he wants to tell Evelyn and Josh that he with caused the accident that cost Oscar and Hannah their lives and Maddy her arm. A guilty Andy tries to makes Leah see that time is running out. Leah is adamant that he can’t yet; he just wants to tell them to alleviate his own guilt. Leah is clear; she decides when they find out and Andy better not make this any worse.

Josh later tries to check on Andy, who’s obviously in a fragile state. Andy just wants Josh to be there for Evelyn. When Evelyn approaches, Andy offers to be there for her anyway he can. But it’s clear she doesn’t need or expect anything from him. Andy is left alone with his guilt once more.

Evelyn tells Josh that she sometimes forgets for a second that Hannah and Oscar are dead, expecting them to just come jogging around the corner. She has to remind herself that she’s lost them. Josh comforts her as they cross with Leah and learn about Maddy’s infection…

Skye, meanwhile, is under pressure when Tank texts her, begging to explain his side of the story. Believing he killed Oscar and Hannah, she deletes his texts. Olivia and Hunter note her tension but Skye covers as they head out for a walk. In general discussion about the week’s events, Josh admits that he kind of feels sorry for Tank – he must be at the hospital hating himself. Skye eventually chooses to take Tank’s phone call.

Tanya searches out Roo and apologises for lashing out. She understands that Roo has done everything she can for Maddy. They determine to find her together. Evelyn and Josh arrive, and it’s Evelyn’s quick thinking that sends Matt on a new path.

Bursting into the hotel room, Matt rescues Maddy with the aid of Roo and Alf. Maddy is rushed to hospital and treated. Stronger now, she apologises to Matt for scaring him. But she makes it clear that the experience has changed her – having come near to death, she wants to fight to rebuild her life. Matt is heartened, but his world is turned upside down again when Tanya makes a heartfelt plea to Maddy to move home so she can be cared for by her family while she goes through rehab. Maddy admits to Matt that she’s thinking about it – and Matt clearly feels a deep unease at the prospect.

Skye fronts Tank. Furious, she tells him to stop contacting her. But she’s stunned when Tank explains that he took the blame for Andy. Tank presses her to keep it quiet. Skye doesn’t like the idea of Tank taking the fall, but reluctantly agrees not to tell Evelyn and apologises for going on the attack. Tank is honest about his feelings for her, and Skye is rocked to realise that she still has feelings for him, not that she’s ready to act on them.

Leah looks to Alf for support. She fears the damage that will be done when the truth about Andy comes out. Alf acknowledges that it won’t be easy but at least they can control how and when Evelyn and Josh hear the news. But the truth comes out when Skye runs into Evelyn and Josh. Under pressure, Skye blurts the news – leaving Evelyn and Josh shattered.
